I'm the only Kiwi that sticks around ...

What's wrong with the current flag? ;)

A lot of people here are saying the same thing. But some think that it's time for NZ to stand on our own two feet without having the flag of Great Britain on our flag. There was a time when Britain looked upon us quite favourably by subsidising butter and meat imports, and allowing us to live there if we wanted. But since they joined Europe thats all been off the table and Kiwis dont have any privileges above other countries. Also, because NZ is a small country, our flag keeps getting mixed up with Australias, because they are quite similar. Often when a kiwi does good overseas, some of the media in other countries think we are Australians. So a lot of people here want us to have a more distinct identity.
But then there are others, especially older folk, royalists and war veterans think its sacrilege that we should change our flag. So its a huge debate. There's also others who hate our Prime Minister and they'd rather vote to keep the flag rather than agree with anything John Key wants. At this stage its looking like we will keep the old flag, but I'll be voting for change.
