I had the misfortune of losing my foreskin, thanks to my parents, so I can't relate. I say, if it's something that intrigues you, then by all means, go for it!

and this is a rational reason to get it done? ](*,) why not do some research and talk to someone professional - like a internist, surgeon, psychiatrist, urologist - just to begin with

I'd be much too afraid to get it done myself, even if it was possible for me.

After you get all your research done, if you still want to get it done, make sure you are absolutely positive that it's what you want.

Well obviously common sense is lacking in this response. Condoms aren't 100% even without a piercing. The jewelery could break the condom and then you're screwed. Also, having a HOLE in your genitals would be a good way to get infections.
Genital piercings are extremely risky. I do body piercing apprenticeship an the parlor I apprentice at refuses to do genital piercings.
 
Thats just asking for an infection. The bacteria that live under the foreskin would love the opportunity to infect an open wound no matter how much you sanitize it.

I'm just curious, but do you have anything more than hearsay to back that up? I don't mean this in a accusatory way, but am honestly just curious if you have more information about this since you're in the business.

I've had a prince albert for several years now and I've never heard anything about higher STD risk from having one. I did a bit of Googling around, but all I could find was this Q&A by a doctor that indicated the risk was probably only increased during healing time.
 
Once it is healed, there is no higher risk. You have to take care that it doesn't break open (imagine someone actually pulling the piercing). If there is a wound of course it's a higher risk.
