Hi guys,

As you could probably figure out through the title, I'm thinking of writing a novel. I'm moving back to Barcelona in a month and so I'll have a crap load of time on my hands in the sun, in the parks and on the beach in between classes.

It's been a dream of mine for a while now to actually sit down and take the time to write the best piece I can muster and I have to say I'm really looking forward to it.

What I wanted to know is, have any of you had this dream in the past? Did you succeed or fail in even finishing it, regardless of quality? Oh and, have any of you had a dream of doing anything similar to this that you did or didn't choose to undertake?

Hey love, Yes. I have. I. Love writing but never seem to have the time...and when I have gotten far I always have gotten disappointed that I haven't seemed to have put enough depth into my plot. The only style of writing where i know that I have always put forth the desired depth is my poetry.
Xox.

You never seemed to have had any problems with depth in the past :\ haha
All jokes aside, if you did take the time to really think about it, you could write an amazing story. You have a way with words

what kind of novel would you like to write..?

I'm not sure, I've always thought that a romance novel could be a good choice because I find it quite easy to explain things in depth which could help to make feelings very clear to the reader. However, I think an adventure novel would be best. I could let my imagination run free ...

I would start with a short story first.

Make a firm structure for the plot and make sure you don't get lost amongst all the words.

I have a few stories I have started on, but they haven‘t been worked on in years. I can’t find the words for them anymore.

Nothing against laudable imaginations. But don't forget: some of the greatest adventure novels in world literature were based on personal adventurous experience over decades. Think for example of Joseph Conrad: he started his writing career in his mid-thirties - after much traveling and turbulence in different countries and on the seven seas...

On the other hand: gifted youngsters like Émile Nelligan & Arthur Rimbaud might have told you: beyond twenty - the creative heydays of a poet are already over... . :?

But let's think positive: imagine you will do it: talented & purposeful - you finish this exciting novel.

Then you are looking for a publisher. And therefore I recommend a similar JustUsBoys thread - and the helpful guidance of our honorable moderator Quasar from London:

Yes. I had the same dream and succeeded. For me the path was to write the true story of guys I found interesting, appealing and sexy. I used the reporting skills I learned in journalism school, asked all the questions I wanted answers to and (with permission) wrote their true stories. You can see the results in jub's gay stories section. Check out "I Thought I Knew" first. If you don't see it, MSG me.

if that's a short novel then maybe a month is enough but if its really a novel novel then it can take you years but of course everything starts with your passion. I read that A song of ice and fire was started on 1991 and the series is still being written up to this point and the fifth book took 5 years to make.. I hope you find inspiration in barcelona

I have always been one for writing - it just seems to slip naturally into my head. What I find difficult is proof reading my own work. I find that every time I do I end up virtually rewriting it and then keep going back. I have no difficulty in proofreading others work but just not my own. This means I have 200 pages of work I spent hours writing but am never happy with.

Oh my God, don't ever start with plot...that's an awful idea! Don't listen to them!

Start with a character! Always! Then create conflict between them. That makes a plot. :)

If I were in Barcelona, I'd take my inspiration from the architecture.
