True enough if you are are black male under the age of 30 as you have an increased chance of dying young due to violent crime. Not true at all if you are a black woman. Black females are represented amongst centenarians+ far beyond what their statistical percentage in the larger population would predict.

I once mentioned to a black male friend that I thought the men with the most awesome and enviable musculature and athletic ability I saw at the gym were black. His response: "Only the strongest survived the middle passage."

She lives in our Midwestern, cold state. She and grandfather moved here from Greece in their 60s but still spent half the year in Greece because their two sons, their son's wife and their grandson, my husband. My husbands parents were killed in an accident when he was a teen and he moved here to live with the grandparents. His grandmother was the most adaptable person, I think I ever knew. She claims her grandchildren (my husband's and my children) kept her young. She swam everyday, too. At 100 my husband insisted she not get into the pool by herself anymore. She resisted initially, but finally agreed to do as he asked.
