the premise of the show is a gay man working for a major sports network. the story follows him dealing with the homophobia of pro sports, being middle-aged, navigating the murky waters of celebrity and balancing his personal and romantic life with career aspirations.
there's a few cliches i'm trying to break away from with the development of this character and story, one being the overly homophobic black parents. the main character is supported, loved and accepted by his parents which is an important image missing from pop and gay culture, another is the character's style which fits neither the typecast limp-wristed fairy nor ubermasculine knuckle-dragging thug. the main character is just a run-of-the-mill regular guy who doesn't steal anybody's attention when he enters a room.
in my dream world a big part of the show would be guest appearances from legendary and up-and-coming athletes playing themselves and sometimes recurring characters. before he passed i had actually started writing an episode that would've featured m. ali.
