  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

i'm writing a sports-themed dramedy, sound like a hit or miss?

It depends on how much of it is dram and how much is edy.

maybe i'm naive but i want it to be an even mix. one source of comedy is the main character's neighbor who is a staunchly homophobic downlow pastor.

Just remember...it killed Moonlighting.

I think maybe you have the one that means something...but is elusive and things never quite click.

In the meantime, he can have any number of encounters with [STRIKE]tricks[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]hook-ups[/STRIKE] boyfriends, who become part of the tapestry of the story...just like in real life.

get out of my head!

i don't feel compelled to stick to one romantic arc since this is a series and i have time to string the story along. my plan was basically as you said, there's one main interest who the audience is gonna root for but things don't quite click, such as life, so the main character has a few other encounters, some good some bad, the same way any normal person's love life is, gay or straight. there's definitely a "soul mate" but i can't tell you too much about what happens between them now can i?

Just make some of them really messy.

And some of them really kind of sweet.

yup! to stay away from the "main character is always right and is always a saint" i thought about having him involved in an affair with his sister's ex husband. if handled correctly i think that could be an honest portrayal of the complexities of love, sex and loyalty but knowing the main guy will be under a microscope i'm not sure if the audience will receive it the way it's intended.

Happens more often than you'd think.

oh i know, that's why i feel so comfortable using it as a storyline, the way i plan it out in my head the main character's relationship with his sister never fully recovers after this.

Sounds like a pretty good idea. Can you pull off writing this? If you can, not only are you better than me, but you just went up in my estimation of you. Even you thinking about writing this makes me realize that there are more facets to your personality than I realized. Bravo!

i'm more than just a hot piece of ass :gogirl:

As much as I would watch the fuck out of this, I'm just not sure if America is really ready for it. Avoid network television and stick to places like Netflix or Hulu if you're serious about pitching this idea to somebody.

is it 1995? the gays are ALL OVER network tv and cable. will and grace. modern family. orange is the new black. queer as folk. noah's arc. jesus i can't even name all the shows starring gay characters.

for that matter, since when am i a scary bitch that's afraid to push the envelope and make people uncomfortable?

Honestly it sounds like something that will strike out before it even gets up to the plate with Network execs. You can try cable/independent channels but it is extremely unlikely they will have anywhere near enough budget to entice even one pro to consider a cameo, let alone any substantial appearance. Also you may want to focus on either comedy or drama, trying to focus on both under the above mentioned premise might leave viewers confused more than entertained.

Don't call it a dramedy, people think they don't like them. Call it a mockumentry. That's what ABC calls Modern Family.

hey willie gurl what a surprise that your font is negative. lucky for me your opinion is worth less than 10 miles of ran-over dog shit.

I was meaning more how you're going against the normal of stereotypes of gay men. I don't see network television buying into that anytime soon.

Shows just how little you know oh foolish one. But feel free to throw what little money you have into the story as you have described it. Don't come crying to me for a handout when you cant get welfare after it fails.

I offered you honest and accurate advice based on your request for said advice. You are free to ignore it at your leisure. Feel free to prove just how stupid you really are.

Watch ARL$SS...one of my favorite shows no one else seemed to watch.....

They had the dramedy...and the famous sports stars every week.....

The funniest episode..the Major League Pitcher who had to get over chewing tobacco to get his swag back...so Arliss sent him to a shrink. He came back and pitched with perfection and Arliss was so happy and then he needed to send him for a quick session and he went to interrupt them and found out the shrink was putting him to sleep and then replacing his need for chewing tobacco with sliding his cock in and out of his mouth to replace his oral obsession...funny as fuck....

I bought the DVD with the 'best episodes" but I want the whole series....

still stuck in 95 Vitamin D (D stands for dick smuggler) there's a million different venues to launch a show, netflix and, well i dunno the other streaming services i swear by netflix and only netflix but i know there's others out there. in 2017 my last concern is finding a platform for a show like this.

and you know me sis, i'll sleep with everybody from the janitor up to the head execs to get my show launched. i have no shame. :gogirl:
