So here's what happened

I have an intel iMac 20 inch (Core Duo, first gen) I've been using it for almost 2 years. (is that fair? Like using it for 2 years before having the first glitch?)

So earlier this evening I was surfing and doing random stuff then I decided to get some dinner and watch a little telly. When I came back, it was turned off so I tried turning it on again. But It won't come back to life!

I tried resetting SMC, checked the cables and the outlets (everything works fine), I tried reloading the RAM modules but to no avail. Nothing I do seems to be reviving my computer.

Anyone had the same problem?

So what could be possibly wrong with it?
Hopefully it's just some fuse or the powersupply.
I'm thinking to take it into the shop tomorrow to get it looked at.

I'm fucking pissed. It's so unnecessary it's ridiculous. Just when I had stuff to do!

Any kind of input would be appreciated :) (*8*)

Open the computer, get everything out except graphics card + motherboard, turn on again. you get a screen? in goes processor + ram. still works? in goes the first harddrive.
ah wait .. it's a mac .. i heard those "simply work". maybe you should return it then :)

Try unplugging it for an hour or so, then plug it back in and see if it works. If not, unplug all the memory that didn't come with it. Can you hear the hard drive?

We also need to know what is or isn't happening.

I think it's the power supply...

Nothing happens. It can't be the ram because if it is, it would still power up but won't boot up. No sounds, no clicks, nothing. I'm gonna take it into the shop today. Fuck.

I love my mac, I can't believe the power supply failed on me.

There was a problem with a Chinese capacitor in the power supply a couple of years ago. If yours was one of the production run affected, they should fix it free.

Check this link from the Apple site. It's in regards to the power supplies from the 2005 iMac G5
http://www.apple.com/support/imac/powersupply/repairextension/
Apparently if your computer's EMC number is 2056, your computer may be eligible for repair, free of charge.
This is a global repair program, so it doesn't matter the country you live in (if anyone else has this problem).

Damn. Too bad I have the 1st gem intel Imacs... I was wishing I could get it done for free! but oh well.

I'm off to shop now, wishing it's just the power supply - which I think is the one that's faulty. Wish me luck!

Thanks for the responses guys! :)

Same problem here.

I already had the ps replaced 2 years ago when it first started acting up. About 2 months ago, it would go into sleep mode and then shut down. I opened it up and reset it but when it went to sleep again it still shut down. I took it to the Apple store for repair and they said I could get the ps replaced again but it's out of warranty and would cost $$. Not worth it for a 3 year old mac in my opinion. The Apple geek suggested to just turn off the auto sleep and let it run all of the time. I did that and have not had a problem since.

I'm still saving up for a new one come this summer.
