Impeachment Inquiry Starts Public Hearings

The intentional hypocrisy of republicans is nauseating. But Nancy Pelosi is wrong as well. The republicans are not in denial about the facts. They completely understand the facts but their party allegiance, the abandonment of their oath of office, and their fascist indoctrination overrides their willingness to do their job and to uphold our democratic processes and rule of law. Does anyone think they wouldn't be ready to tear a hole in the space-time continuum to impeach a Democratic president on exactly the same basis with exactly the same charges if that president had done exactly what Trump has done? They make me sick.

^ Can someone please explain how that is even possible?

Seth Myers' joke last night: "The White House held a Congressional Ball this evening. While Mitch McConnell held two Presidential balls."

It is possible when McConnell's job is to so damage the legislative branch that the transition to an oligarchical, racist, homophobic right wing autocracy is complete.

He and his owners have been plotting this for years.

I love the way Nadler handles the poor oppressed white straight male republicans. They think they are Gods and I made a video of the consequences of them thinking as such.

As I've been telling you over and over, with McConnel in the Senate and Barr at Justice, there is no oversight and the orange horror can literally do whatever the fuck he wants. At this point even if he loses in the S.C. who is going to enforce that decision when he just ignores it.

We are in trouble. McConnel is a fucking traitor, and Barr is a Traitor, and Trump is insane.

I often wonder how much Vladimir paid to bring this about.

As I've been telling you over and over

That isn't what I meant. I wanted to know what authority McConnell has that would allow him to turn a trial over to the defendant. Something must make him think it's possible. I just wanted to know what it was. I mean, I can't think of a single instance in which a criminal trial is turned over to the defendant.

What would Andrew Jackson do?

Oh you poor, poor naïve child. McConnel knows damn well that this is a complete abdication of his oath, all precedent, procedure, and possibly illegal, he also knows damn well that there will be no repercussions no matter how egregious his corruption is.

I don't understand it either. I've been called for jury duty about 14 times and every trial I've ever been involved with the JUDGE is the one that sets the rules. I don't understand why Justice Roberts isn't stepping in here and taking control. It seems to me he should be the one that lays down the rules of the proceedings. The constitution clearly says the Chief Justice presides over an impeachment trial.

Justice Roberts presides, he does not really control procedure - he enforces the rules created in the Senate, he can't create rules of his own after the fact, because the Constitution gives that to the Senate. Justice Roberts will PRESIDE over whatever McConnel DECIDES. The Senate sets the rules that Roberts enforces and then iirc, he can be overruled by a majority vote in the Senate anyway.

That was uncalled for. I'm not American. I don't know American laws and procedures or even the US Constitution well enough to know that there may be something somewhere which gives Mitch McConnell Jr. the authority. I was merely asking.

The Senate makes their own rules of order. It's not the rules, though.

In the past, when we had Senate leadership and an institutional tradition where the goal was to pass legislation and ensure that we had a functioning America with a functioning government, the Senate was always viewed as the "deliberative body".

McConnell has poisoned the well with money. He needs millions to maintain his slim majority. He perverts the rules to accomplish things like blocking Garland from the SCOTUS and keeping a maximum number of vacancies on the Federal Courts open until he got a toadie in the White House that would agree to pack the courts with ideologues. They pass the big donor wishlist. The donors reward McConnell with hundreds of millions of dollars. McConnell uses that to re-elect Republican Senators and the cycle begins again.

McConnell needs to go and the money that fuels the dysfunction needs to go.

Of course, as always the case- we rate Congress with an 75% unfavorable rating, yet we re-elect them every 6 years in spite of it.

I wasn't trying to be insulting.
