Impressions from attending a mosque for the first time

No, it is not for you as you only have one tint of lenses through which you view "outsiders" in your reckoning. We are better than our worst traits. They are better than their worst traits. To work to understand our brothers is not tantamount to admiring them; to search for the common ground is not to ignore the differences we have. You are simply irked that we do not share your contempt. Never enough hate for some of you guys.

The fallacies in your assertion are myriad. The Abrahamic religions combined wield more influence today across the planet than at any time in the past. The numbers of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are a staggering percentage of the world's populace. The presence of lampoon or satire isn't really making them ineffectual, which is what one guesses you are trying to say when you state making fun of them weakens them.

Your assessment of them is merely a product of wishful thinking and your usual bigotry.

If we were to accept your contrivance of supposed logic, you'd be right. But, we're not so dim-witted as to buy into the faulty syllogism. "Muslims" do not wish us dead. Muslim extremists might, but Aryan Nation Christians may also want minorities dead, but they do not constitute Christians.

As this is my thread, and I am regularly posting defenses of Christianity, your comments do not apply to my regard for Islam. I have attended a Buddhist temple, a Mormon service, a Jewish synagogue, and a Muslim mosque and welcome the chance to learn about them directly, not further the divisions that are already too present.

Fundamentalist leaders ask the world to reject gay marriage as they fear that one of the worst things to confront the world today is the possibility some of us may be loving all the wrong people. You now have a similar fear that we'll respect the wrong people and fail to evince the contempt you feel. Good company you keep there, Springer. Maybe it's appropriate your online ID is the same as the talk show that sells domestic conflict and hate as entertainment.
It's frankly embarrassing to see propagandists try to paint Muslims as some sort of subhumans or barbarians instead of people with different cultural backgrounds.

I'm blown away. You appear to condemn Christians for actions of a few and praise Muslims while ignoring the actions of millions.

I suggest you never travel in a Muslim country.

^ I'm well aware that Saudi female fashion does not meet with your approval.

It doesn't meet with the approval of many of them, either.

For all the shouting here it is surprising how many Saudi women are content to dress so stylishly.....the few that object are the ones receiving the media attention, as if to suggest that they represent the majority.

I haven't heard much suggestion that they're the majority, though they may well be. But they are certainly a sizable minority.

These particular ones don't look so happy submitting to the will of the patriarchs

The relative ignorance of so many posters in this thread is breathtaking.

Every once in a while though, there are some real gems in the posts.

Medievalism and tribalism is the real core of the problem with all fundamentalist interpretations of any of the Bronze Age religions.

I liked it better when Ra and Anubis kicked ass. Those were mythologies you could really get behind.

Rabbinic/Talmudic Judaism in the current incarnation is relatively new even though its roots in Canaanite deities does go back to the 17th century BC.

I haven't attending the mosque closest to me; I doubt I'd be welcome.

The big mosque ten miles from me occasionally have Open Days; the front of the building advises that it's open to non-believers.

The big buildings which appear at the beginning of this thread are great examples of architecture open to tourists as much as believers.

Maybe it's because the penalties for speaking out and doing otherwise might be death.

Always with the nasty posts.

I'm assuming you didn't read his post.

Oh Kuli! I hear you're Bisexual; would you date that woman? Muslim men are allowed to beat their women.

Sure, I'd take her out on a date -- I'd be proud to be with someone so creative. Not sure what we'd do, though; I guess Muslim women aren't allowed to go skinny-dipping. Maybe a movie, if we could find one her male [STRIKE]owners[/STRIKE] relatives would approve.
