In the first world, I hope it will be individual cars.
We seem to be obsessed with them, eschewing mass transit, and now, merely replacing internal combustion with electric, which isn't the solution. The solution is to stop having a vehicle per household, or four.
Trucks and heavy vehicles for family use should be heavily taxed, as they are excessive of need and status symbols.
Shared private vehicles will be the norm, and mass transit outside that, and peddle cars or bikes.

The kinda people who are angst-ridden over shit like that are aging out of the population, they're not a very healthy bunch, often overweight with heart problems compounded by mental health issues, mostly they won't be here in 40 years. replacing them is a more tolerant society that cares about ACTUAL issues like domestic terrorism, corporate greed and corruption, police brutality, the environment, reproductive rights and so on and so forth.
40 years from now today's youth will be patting themselves on the back for their activism. Not since the 60s have we seen such a robust and energized counter culture and they're not just doing it on social media they are boots-on-the-ground activists who are tired of the status quo and they're making their voices heard. that will be their legacy.
they'll teach their kids to say something when the boss tells an off-color joke about black people or women and recall the bigot they beat up in a bar cuz he was harassing a gay couple, those events will be even sweeter in memory than the were in real time. true proud moments. we'll remember where everyone stood on important issues and despise the ones on the wrong side of history.
the eldest of the angry old curmudgeons will rewrite this period as being martyrs of the woke something something. they're so disconnected from reality who knows what they'll delude themselves into believing. the worst of the worst will only double down on their cantankerous nature and insist it was everybody else who isn't a fraction as hateful as them that didn't know the truth.
