  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

In Commemoration of 9/11...

Cakes are usually a time for celebration. To post one saying "Happy" is beyond tacky. There is nothing "happy" about 3,000+ people burning to death or jumping off a building to die. That is shit you would see in places that hate America. That's worse than a burning flag to me.

I guess we just see it differently, perhaps. I certainly don't hate America, that's for sure.

You have outdone yourself and I don't think I could ever respect you or take your posts seriously.

I'm sorry, who exactly are you? Should I be concerned about this?

If I didn't have any class I would call you an asshole. But I won't.

That bandwagon already left about two months ago, dear.

No.

You didn't focus on the topic. It wasn't about any old pic that could be used as an avatar. It was about the avatars that Jubbers had chosen.

You made it about you.

And you deserve all the contempt and derision that comes your way for this.

I'll let someone else tell you to go fuck yourself.

You need to calm yourself down.

I've said this in other posts, but as this is about 9/11, I'm goin to mention it anyway. I am American, and live in the UK... long story about my past, and won't talk about it as it hurts so much.

I lost two friends on 9/11... they were there in that tower. Today, I attended a service held local to me to honour their memories. Upon placing their photographs on this special area, I gave a short talk...

... and cried for the first time in many years.

If this thread is still goin, I will try to find the Avatar I made last night... took me ages to make, but my first attempt.

To all my friends out there: Much love and respect to you all (*8*)

Fuck off. You've already ruined this thread. This will be my last post to you in this thread. You will not get any more of my attention. I'll save it for "people".

Unfortunately, he is revelling in the attention he both sought and received, my friend. He reminds me very much of they guy who was drooling over Jack Layton a few weeks ago. It's his style.

McVeigh was put to death 3 months to the day that Sept 11 happened. The people who worked and died in the Twin Towers were from many ethnicities and countries across the world.

At the time, the Transportation and Aviation Secretary Norman Mineta grounded all the planes in US aviation air space and he further made the bold and constitutional appeal that people should not use racial profiling at airports to discriminate against fliers. Then the right wing media whipped up frenzy about Muslims, and to this day, many non-muslims have aired their prejudices on camera, in public, and even officials in public offices have done so.

Mineta, who is a Japanese American and subject to detention during WW2 in Japanese internment camps suffered through this injustice of racial profiling because Roosevelt bowed to public pressure to victimise a section of the society for being different. Norman Mineta spoke out against anti-muslim hate. Something very brave in the face of the public opinion against him by the media, and in doing so stood up for the minority.

In doing so, this also honoured the multiracial and multiethnic make up of the people who worked and died in the twin towers.

So did someone a little more famous: George 'Mr. Sulu' Takei. He wrote about it in his book:

I don't hate anyone or anything. Don't have the time nor the energy. Once again, I'm just being misunderstood.

No, I think we all understand you completely.

Maybe better than you understand yourself.

I thought about using this:

But decided to go with this one. Not sure why, for it's simplicity I guess.

This isn't an avatar as such but a picture of the tribute my city (Liverpool, England) made on the first anniversary.

I wonder where or who the bitch stole it from...

Facebook is just loaded with free pics dontcha know? :p

Huh?

The thread called for avatars to be posted
. I don't get your comment.

The only avatar that I've see you post or share looks like a constipated bitch.

Which seems more than appropriate in your case! ..|

But "dear" I'm just saying.

Oh, and if you think that you're going to get into "flamer war" with a Moderator over this?

Hint: You've already lost.

And they weren't all "Republicans" either. [-X

Americans were murdered on 9/11.

Not a particular demographic, but AMERICANS.

From every nationality, religious belief, political orientation, or the lack thereof, but Americans were murdered on 9/11/01.

One of the tackiest jokes that I've heard recently?

What's the difference between Republicans and 9/11, and a Dairy Farmer and a cow?

A: After 10 years the Dairy Farmer stops milking the cow.

..|

It pissed this American off, who had a friend in faith who happened to be a passenger on AA Flight 11 that slammed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

His wife and three children back in LA never saw him again.

I saw them on Sunday in camera footage as they stood at the fountains making a rubbing of their father's name.

His oldest son looks just like him. :luv:

*sigh*

So anyone who wants to make "fun" is either an internet retard, or they really just don't give a shit, and are pissed that it isn't "all about them."

Boo fucking hoo!

I personally don't give a fuck about them. [-X

Shocking that someone can shit in thread after thread after thread and nothing is done.

That was the cover of New York Magazine a year after the towers left.

I don't understand what's disturbing about it. They're holding a classic NY postcard up, commemorating the presence the towers had in shaping the skyline.

There's nothing intended to be "humorous" about it and it really bothers me that it would even garner a comparison to tacky internet memes. Very tastefully done by a magazine that's been a New York staple for decades.

I agree there's nothing humorous about it, but for me it doesn't quite achieve it's goal. It almost feels flippant, which I'm sure wasn't the intent. There's just something about the brightness of it, and perhaps even the sterility of the font, that doesn't quite convey for me the weight of the situation. I think it's a poignant idea, but it just doesn't quite succeed for me.
