Are you doing this for vanity sake or to be healthier? Sounds like you want a six pack, you look great the way you are.

Alot of guys will never get a six pack no matter how healthy, how much excersise they get. Its just their genes.

Some guys eliminate all this stuff in their diet and they become miserable pricks and honestly, lose so much weight they look horrible and/or sick.

well, thanks...

But although friends are great and all and I'd never trade them for anything, I still want to be able to be proud of the body I have.

besides, I'm 37 and I can't really let myself go... it might sound shallow, but really, it's a health concern too.

And YOU try haning out with the Fratmen and see what kind of body issues You get.

Thank you for sharing your intentions, and I wish you the success you hope for, with your new regimen.

This will take some discipline on Soilwork's (or anybody else's) part, guys, but believe me it CAN be done. I am trying to do something about it myself, though I haven't engaged the full complement of what I must do. I am not doing too bad on the food part, but I have yet to include a structured or scheduled exercise regimen which is also important. I never thought I could do the food part, but it's worked well after all.

My approach has been to have my biggest meal around noon, and plants (fruit and veggies) have increased from 5% (?) to about 75% of my eating. It's somewhat harder to adhere to the regimen when traveling, but at home I tend to be "vegetarian by early afternoon" just as Soilwork is "non-carb by early afternoon."

Though your regimen resembles Atkins, Soil, I'm actually happy you're not doing strictly Atkins. Sounds like you have a suitable balance. A fully-Atkins diet seems to have some significant health issues of its own.

As you keep us posted, it is altogether likely it will help me further enforce my own regimens. It helps me seeing other people doing this, and indeed I got started on it myself because a cherished college-friend (from years ago) started such a program himself, and cared enough to discuss it with me.

Soilwork - I salute you. My abs left years ago - with no forwarding address.

Why not enjoy all the health and good looks that 37 has to offer you? Why would you want to give up so early, right?

I can only imagine.

I'd rather hang out with overweight middle-aged guys. Makes me feel GREAT! :-)

You might find it hard to keep up with those changes a year from now. Restrictive diets are hard to commit to for long periods of time.

Why not eat less and do a ton of cardio? The pounds will come off and you'd probably maintain a lower body weight without all the trouble of sticking to a difficult routine.

Good luck, regardless of the outcome. Taking care of yourself is something everyone should strive for. ..|

Well, I admire your determination and strong-mindedness. Speaking for myself though, given the choice between abs and potatoes, I'd go for the potatoes.

Wow, Jasun. You've become quite dedicated. We're going to get pics, right? :D

Abs, as I have discovered are 80% diet, 15% excercise and 5% genetics. I finally excavated my 6 pack this past summer just as I turned 38. Several months later, they're still with me and I'm very proud of the acheivement. But, as all things, I know that it's all variable. As the winter hits and my shirt stays on more and I start playing in the kitchen more... I know my 6 pack will fill in. Mind you, finally having gotten here after so long working at it, I also know I'll be getting them back for the next sunny season.

I guess I'm lucky to be one of those that can eat like a horse and not put on any weight. I'm short and have always been skinny.
Good luck and I also admire your determination.

So was I at 23.

Trust me, that doesn't last into your 40s.

Oh, and Chance... I work out at Gold's Gym in Hollywood.

Ah ha! Always knew they were evil things! My mum made me eat bucket loads of the fuckers as a kid.. i always hated them, but she forced them down my neck.

That explains why i was never able to get that 6 pack as a teen..

God damned orange sticks of horridness.. im chucking all mine away tonight!

Carrots have alot of natural sugars in it. This does not mean carrots are bad for you, it just means eat them in moderation. It is the same with fruit. All of these are still much better and healthier than eating things with preservatives in it or added sugar.

well, here's the plan I've worked out with the help of.. well.. Suzanne Somers and the Men's Health Abs Diet.

My first stage is the one I'm in.. no carbs after 10 AM, lots of protein and fat, small meals thoughout the day.. never being hungry.

lots of water and lots of cardio.

no alcohol... yada yada.

Once I'm down to my target base weight (which is another 15 lbs to go.. I've lost 10 already), then I switch to a six meals a day diet and base it around foods that will help me build muslce while fighting fat.

It will help me bulid up more muscle which will burn any fat that comes along, plus it will be a low fat diet anyway.

the idea is to go right down to nothing and then build back up with what I want.

It's going to be a 6-month ordeal until Im' happy with the results, so don't expect to see any "after" pictures until the new year.

but yeah... I'm in this for the long haul.

I haven't had a cigarette or a drink for two weeks... I have more energy and I feel great.
