So here I am, in the Garden of England happily tapping away on my keyboard in an attic room, stealing a neighbour's internet connection. I'm currently lodging with a very nice couple, and in fact the landlady is holding a party buffet in 15 minutes which will be nice! The quiche was in the oven earlier and smelled fantastic!
Why am I lodging? Well, I've just started a new job in Kent after graduating in June, and I'm staying here until I can find somewhere more permanent. I've been working for two weeks now and I love it, I've got my own desk with a nameplate, PC and telephone which I found very exciting on my first day. I can see an inlet of the Kentish coast from my desk through the glass walls of the laboratory. I haven't done much actual "work" yet - just training and induction. I ran a reaction on Friday - well, it was mainly my lab supervisor really, but it was in my fume hood. Tomorrow I get to do in on a 5 litre scale. Which is bigger than anything I've done before! And, if I mess it up there will be consequences - one of those things about working life I have so far avoided like the plague!
The couple who I'm lodging with don't even have a computer, let alone wireless broadband, but luckily a neighbour does, so I could get a weak connection. I bought a wireless card last weekend only to find out that IE didn't work, Outlook couldn't connect... Skype was the only thing that did. So I've been sneakily using work access for personal use which should really only be "incidental and infrequent". So yesterday I went to Canterbury and sat in Caffe Nero to use their wifi - only to find out that IE still didn't work! So onwards to an internet café for a cable network connection... whereupon I discover that it's IE that's the problem. Firefox works fine! So here I am with internet, listening to Blue and D'Nash on YouTube, on JUB.
However iTunes still will not connect so I can't download Sexy! No No No... or About You Now or any multitude of tracks that I want. Grr. I guess I'll live for now!
