Incense Scents: What Ones Do You Like?

^ I also use the 'proper' incense ocassionally. It's called 'Basilica' and is the same that we used in church. Calms me down whenever I'm stressed. :)

Standard RCC incense is frankincense and myrrh, and is called Gloria. It's often used in Wiccan circles* because it smells OK and is way cheap.

Things once precious and now...in the budget bin. Gold is still kinda pricey.

*Which is where I first encountered it. First time I smelled it in church was a weird experience; I'd never smelled it around people with their clothes on!

Good to know. That is why I was told to try incense.

Raspberry, Strawberry, Vanilla, Cinnamon, Lavender. I typically like only Gonesh brand. I have tried other brands, but their scents are weaker and smell smokier.

Dumb question, but is there any difference between sticks and cones scent wise?

It's actually made by a company called 'Prinknash'. They do several 'flavours' - Abbey, Basilica, Sanctuary etc. We used Abbey on a daily basis, and Basilica for special ocassions. I have to say that the relaxation factor is partly the smell and partly the memories of a better period of my life.

I'm just not a fan of incense. IMO, they are messy and your home ends up smelling like some hippy van.

"Perfumes from Ancient Times' is the name of a Gonesh cone brand incense. It is the very best. Gonesh cones are a pure incense that smoke very little. The fragrance is wonderful.

I've been in many other people's homes that smell far worse. Hippy van smells much more appealing than cat, cat litter, cat pee, cigarette smoke, ash trays, cheap beer, mildew, dusty, shitty diaper, or countless other things that people's homes smell like.

The quote from Ram made me think of when my roommate in St. Louis once censed a whole auditorium (seating 800) with Athos Rose so thoroughly that it still smelled like a rose garden forty-five minutes after he put the charcoal out.

BTW, Athos wildflower incense is awesome, too.

note: I just checked some sources, and the Athos incense is actually a lot cheaper than it used to be (though shipping and handling can be a bear).

That is so cool if it works. Even better eBay has some for about $2 with free shipping. I am going to get one when I can.

If you are not sure what to get, you could always get a sampler pack like this:

That's what I was planning to do. I figure I can try some different sample packs with the scents mentioned and find what I like.

Thanks. I found their site

I don't really use incense very often, but if I do it's either Australian Sandalwood or it's Amber. It really depends what the scent is for.

In the WC I use the evaporative Fig room scent from l'Occitane because the strong woody scent followed by a sweet fruit note camouflages the worst odours but not in a sickly or toxic way.

In the kitchen I use their house perfumes, with Lemongrass, Cinnamon and Vanilla being my three favourites. Which one I use depends on what I've been cooking.

The Lemongrass spray is also great for finishing the bedroom after I've changed the sheets and done the cleaning and vacuuming; it's a nice touch to freshen up the room and I feel like everything's done! I mean, I do leave the window wide open as soon as I wake up, and it is open a bit most of the time, but the lemony scent sharpens the air and makes it sort of crisp.
