Oh no! That looks bad enough that you'd need a bit of luck to survive.
 
Looks as if it hit the beginning of the runway which butts up against a waterway.... weird.
 
Seems like the tail of the plane seemed to clip the ground and broke off, causing the plane to basically lose control and turn over onto its back.
 
Another reminder to never wear shorts or flip flops or on an airplane. I was on a transatlantic flight mid-week and was appalled at the number of guys thus attired. Eye candy for me, a hazard for them.

Not only reports of two fatalities but around 5:40 pm local (2 hours ago) reports updated to one missing with reports of 49 described as being in "serious" condition

Yahoo is treating the story as secondary news
 
^Yeah but crashes are rare on planes. And crashes at SFO rarer. You have a far greater chance of being in an auto accident. Like 10000 times greater I think maybe even more.

This just in: there is a possibility that one of the persons killed was not from the crash itself, but from getting run over by a rescue vehicle - how ironic.

I don't usually believe in miracles, but when I see pics of the burned wreckage and realize that nearly 300 people survived, I have become a believer. :=D:

Isn't that an unbelievable development? Not to sound disrespectful or anything like that, but can you imagine surviving a plane crash to only get run over and killed by one of the rescue vehicles? Awful...
 
I learned about this from a retweet of a journalist who was on the plane - didn't have any idea how bad it was at that point - did know about the tail coming off.

Some of the reports I saw did sound like they thought pilot might have been coming in too low - some passengers said the engines revved just before they hit - an indication that the pilot was trying to gain some elevation.

The black box was retrieved and sent to Washington, DC to the NTSA.

It is a miracle that only two people died.
