Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull merged

Re: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal S

Everyone is bashing the hell out of this film. They did it for the money, thus the horrible result. They should have left it alone. The film will be gone in two weeks time, working it's way down at the box office.

"Indiana Jones" cracks whip at box office opening

The new "Indiana Jones" movie grossed a hefty $25 million from its first day in North American theaters, independent industry analysts reported on Friday.

That tally ranks as the fourth highest-grossing Thursday debut on record and bodes well for a movie industry looking to "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" to help shake the movie business out an early summer slump.

The highly anticipated adventure flick from Viacom Inc's Paramount Pictures is on track to overtake last year's "Pirates of the Caribbean" film as the biggest opening on a U.S. Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers, said the film's opening Thursday performance was robust enough without being so strong as to diminish its weekend audience.

If its Friday-through-Monday box office tally crosses the $140 million mark, the film would exceed last year's Walt Disney Co's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" as the biggest North American opening yet for the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend.

"They have a strong shot at meeting or exceeding that Pirates of the Caribbean number last year," Dergarabedian said.

Looks like it's gonna take more than two mere weeks before the new Indy adventure finds its way down at the box office.

It did nothing for me. I was disappointed.

How I wish that Spielberg would stop with that silly obsession theme of his.

This is Indiana Jones. Ancient things. Not Spielberg's obsession.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal S

I really enjoyed it but I found the very end ( you know when .....) was very strange and wasn't in accord with Indiana Jones' spirit...

But I spent 1h45 enjoying

"Indiana Jones" cashes $311 million worldwide

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" chased down $311.1 million from moviegoers around the world, as nostalgic fans brought along their children to watch Harrison Ford's latest escapades, distributor Paramount Pictures said on Monday.

The tally included $151.1 million from the United States and Canada -- the second-highest U.S. Memorial Day holiday weekend opening in history -- and $160 million from No. 1 launches in 61 other countries, the studio said.

"Crystal Skull", which Paramount said cost $185 million to make, is the fourth movie in the lucrative "Indiana Jones" franchise, and the first to hit theaters in 19 years.

Haven't Seen it yet but Looking Forward to it

Re: "Indiana Jones" cashes $311 million worldwide

It's not bad. Just a little disappointing. The self-referential humor gets old fast, but other things make up for it. Cate Blanchett is kind of badass.
Also what the fuck is up with vine-swinging-monkey-boy Shia Lebouf? Anyone else think that was just dumb (not his casting, the monkey thing)?

Re: "Indiana Jones" cashes $311 million worldwide

if you know the franchise you expect some silly stuff. i hope they meant it to be fun & funny, cuz i laughed!

Re: "Indiana Jones" cashes $311 million worldwide

I thought the monkey scene was a little over the top and stupid also but then I realized that Indiana Jones is SUPPOSED to appeal to ALL audiences and many people did and do bring smaller children to these movies so there must be scenes that kids will enjoy also and little kids would prolly get a big kick out of swinging around on the vines. I read an interview once with George Lucas where he was asked to defend the fan outrage over the stupidity of the Jar-Jar Binks character in the newer Star Wars series and this was his response....that he intentionally skewed some scenes and some characters to appeal to younger audiences so the whole family can enjoy the movies. Kids get bored easily and if every person, joke, and scene is "adult" then kids will lose interest fast. I assume Indiana Jones is no exception.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal S

This may be sorta long, sorry. But I really do want to share my thoughts with my fellow Indy fans.

I saw it today, not nearly as bad as I was hearing. It was entertaining, despite some painful flaws. Overall it felt like a bunch of Lucas-esque scenes patched together with a bunch of Spielberg-esque scenes, the latter being the better.

Now it's my turn to pick this movie apart piece by piece (minor spoilers).

Indy :=D:: aka Henry Jones II, Professor Jones, and now . . .Colonel Jones? Well aside from him mysteriously being a colonel which wasn't really explained, Indy was by far the best character. Yes he definitely shows his age, but I hand it to Spielberg and Lucas for working his age into the story about as good as anyone could.

Marion :?: It was nostalgic to hear that her first returning words were "Indiana Jones!", reminiscent of her first words to Indy in Raiders. But her character felt in the way for much of her time, she wasn't given much interesting things to do or say. And it looks like the makeup crew had a real challenge to preserve her youth for the big screen. Still, she had her moments.

Mutt *|*: New Jones' kid on the block. Henry Jones III. Possibly the second best character in the movie, although this doesn't say a whole lot. He had some good action scenes, but he wasn't given very many interesting, witty things to say that I would expect Indy's offspring to have. But, Shia was pure eye candy. Every time I saw him on screen in those jeans I wanted to reach out and jump him. His Tarzan scene was silly and misplaced though.

Spalko ](*,): The villainous. Frankly, she was a mess. What a waste of Blanchett's big talent. And zero chemistry (of any kind) between her and Indy's characters. She was the most disappointing aspect of this film for me.

Professor Oxley : John Hurt's in this movie, eh, I never knew. Not much to say here. Pretty much another waste of a big talent. He played a professor who temporarily lost his mind. I didn't really care.

The beginning :corn:: I always liked the opening scenes in Indy movies. This one wasn't quite as exciting, but I was still intrigued. It was clever how they made you think the Russians were after the Ark. But they were after something else which was almost equally as exciting.

The story :goodevil:: The premise is much better than I imagined. It just kind of fell apart in execution, especially at the end. The alien story was actually working out well with the archeology stuff, until the end which made zero sense.

The end: :bs: WTF? Mind control. Knowledge. Other dimensions. Spaceship. If you are trying to figure out what these all have in common, then join the club.

Special effects:They didn't overwhelm the story like I had heard, for the most part they serviced the movie well.

Script: Lots of references to past Indy movies. Dialogue was hit and miss, but mostly in between ho-hum. I chuckled a few times, but not nearly as much as the past films.

On the Indy series scale, I rank this a marginal 3rd best. But overall I was pleased that it wasn't a total mess. Much of film felt like it was in good hands. The rest of it felt like it was in the hands of someone who lost his mind about 20 years ago.

my thoughts exactly. And the "lost his mind" bit is where I think the monkey/tarzan thing came from. It's entirely possible to work in something "for the kids" without being completely stupid.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal S

Um, no. I don't even think he removes his jacket. Has he ever removed a shirt in a movie? I've only seen him in Disturbia, Transformers, and this movie.

He has a lot of shirtless scenes (a lot in his old series, and he goes down to BVD's in Holes), as well as a nude scene in Bobby...

I'm sort of glad to hear the reviews and Top Ten...I have it as one of my movies in a fantasy league.....I'm so going to see it on my next paycheck....
