Indianapolis Bakery Won't Serve Gay Students

It's not a private business unless you need a membership to get in. Is that the case here?

I mean a privately held business as opposed to, for example, a publicly funded institution. I didn't think that distinction was really needed. I clarified my take on privately held businesses discriminating upthread also. The dumb utterance was meant as a mindless segueway to get people here to use social media to respond to the business in any case.

It looks like people are doing that. Good.

even if that includes destroying humanity? i don't think so, just because you are business does not mean you are above the law. that is plain arrogant.

Aw come on, is it really that arrogant for a private business to destroy humanity?

If I owned a cookie shop that made cupcakes, I would never make cupcakes with Quebec separatist slogans on them, and that would not be anti-French discrimination, it would be my right not to have my business associated with a political cause I find unacceptable. Any other francophone I would serve with pleasure, and en français, too if they preferred, just not the ones asking to use my products to destroy my country.

So these people's political opinion is wrong, but I find it hard to compel them to provide supplies to an event they disagree with.

But bankside...would you refuse to make some cupcakes with the colors of the Quebec flag (not the flag itself, just its colors) on them? Even if the group were a Quebec separatist group?

This guy is claiming that cupcakes with rainbow colors on them are "obscene." He's an idiot.

what about vanilla cupcakes with white frosting for a KKK rally?

I bet he'd provide them. I'd probably refuse to do any business at all with the KKK, who are a terrorist organization.

But he wasn't claiming that he was refusing their business because of their organization. He was claiming that the cupcakes they wanted were obscene. That's absurd. He's a lying sack of shit.

I think a little more civility than a flat refusal to serve would remove the question of discrimination from the exchange.

Something like, 'we welcome your business, but just so you know we at Just Cookies :clown: actively support anti-gay policies and wouldn't mind if you chose another supplier for your event.'

and if he refused BLACK icing because it would harm his impressionable young childrens values - he would be brought up on charges of discrimination -

but it's okay to discrimate against LGBTQI groups !! fucking bullshit !

like someone wrote on the "review the bakery" website -- Their money is just as GREEN as hetro dollars.

The bakery can and has served gay students. It simply won't make rainbow cupcakes for students, gay or otherwise.

I bet if Carrie Pejean put in order is would be filled.
