Tim Huelskamp Explains Why 42nd House Vote To Repeal Obamacare Will Be Better Than The Previous 41

Thought question: What do the Republicans have to replace Obamacare?

Answer: Romneycare

Oh wait...Obamacare IS Romneycare...

...and while we are on the subject...Obamacare is essentially the Republican Plan anyway....

...so back to the question...

Replace? Why do you think they want to replace anything.

Teabaggers fondle themselves at night picturing the downfall of the foreign black Muslim.

That's what it comes down to, nothing more.

Thought question: What do the Republicans have to replace Obamacare?

They don't need to have anything. Our healthcare system was just fine before Obamacare and will continue to be just fine without it.

Bullshit.

The US has had one of the most broken systems in the western world. It is only ignorance and pure arrogance to assert otherwise.

Thought question: What do the Republicans have to replace Obamacare?

They're not trying to "replace" it with anything. They offer no alternative whatsoever.

They seek only to destroy it, because they believe it will work. And if there is anything Republicans hate, it is effective and efficient government improving the lives of Americans.

They don't need to have anything. Our healthcare system was just fine before Obamacare and will continue to be just fine without it.

What part of having by far the most expensive health care system on earth, available to only a few people, and producing comparatively poor outcomes is so "fine?" What part of 70% of American bankruptcies resulting from health care costs is so "fine?" What part of spending 17.9% of our GDP on healthcare (and rising) is so "fine" (only Sierra Leone spends more, and no country in the developed world is even close)?

Ronald Reagan socialized the American medical system with The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act. That act requires hospitals to provide emergency medical care to everyone at the expense of the hospital. Obviously, Reagan was a big believer in socialism. He just wanted it to be the most inefficient and poorly effective socialism imaginable.

Because, if there is anything Republicans love, it is inefficient and ineffective government interfering in the lives of Americans.

available to only a few people, and producing comparatively poor outcomes is so "fine?" .

Two big lies so close together.

The fact remains that some 80% of Americans are happy with their current healthcare (a link to that fact has been posted twice, recently).

It is also a fact that a majority of Americans are against Obamacare.

Two big lies so close together.

I appreciate that you Republicans have a disdain for facts (like global climate change, evolution, homosexuality is a choice, etc.). Facts can be uncomfortable things.

But 16% of Americans have no health insurance whatsoever. Among those who do have coverage, it is often inadequate to cover expenses. 70% of bankruptcies would not be resulting from healthcare expenses, if the bills were getting paid, would they? The fact remains, health insurance coverage in America is a dismal failure.

Among 34 developed countries, the US ranks 27th in medical outcomes, despite spending twice as much per capita on healthcare as any other country in the group. Almost one dollar in five of the American economy is consumed by healthcare expenses. That's about twice what any other developed nation spends. For all this expense, we see comparatively poor outcomes. Most developed nations are spending about 9% of GDP on healthcare, with comprehensive coverage of everyone and better outcomes. That means that at least 9% of the entire US GDP is being wasted for no good end whatsoever.

And yet, you Republicans are not alarmed by this boat anchor that is sinking the American economy. You prefer the demonstrated failure of the existing socialized medicine system in the USA to the proven success of alternative systems around the world. We have within our hands the power to boost American productivity by 10% through the reform of healthcare, and we are doing it. But, you Republicans champion failure instead.

The fact remains that some 80% of Americans are happy with their current healthcare (a link to that fact has been posted twice, recently).

The statistic is that 67% of Americans who have health care are satisfied with the quality of that care. Just because two-thirds of the insured are satisfied with relatively poor outcomes does not make that a good thing. Satisfaction with one's existing doctor and hospital experience are not evidence that Americans disdain the better outcomes enjoyed by the rest of the developed world. Liking you own doctor is not an endorsement of mediocrity within the American system of medicine.

It is also a fact that a majority of Americans are against Obamacare.

About 57% of Americans oppose all or part of Obamacare, while 39% favor every part of it. But, almost a third of those opposed (~16%) oppose it because it is not liberal enough! That implies that a majority of Americans actually prefer Obamacare to the status quo.

Maybe that's why you people have gotten nowhere with your attempts to repeal it.

Yup...Most liberals and lefties oppose [STRIKE]Obama[/STRIKE]Romneycare because there is no public option.

Because not all failures are equal. Republicans don't mind failures which transfer billions of dollars into the hands of private middlemen, contractors and top-level manufacturers, distributors or administrators. Provided of course that those entities are immensely wealthy Republican campaign contributors and not dirty liberals, of course. Aetna welcome.

In "watercooler" discussions of healthcare I hear all this bitchin' and moaning about doctors or nurses charging exorbident fees or being too lavishly paid or whatever else. When I see on my pre-adjustment hospital bill that the grand total (presumably, the amount in theory that an uninsured person not eligible for the insurance adjustment would have to pay) is $26,000, do you honestly mean to tell me you believe the doctor is being paid that, or even any substantial portion of that, for his one hour of work? I know too many doctors in real life to believe this, I'd sooner buy a pass to the pool on the roof. I honestly believe the discussion so frequently comes down to blaming doctors and direct care providers because people either cannot or are uncomfortable grasping the size of the behemoth that is the healthcare system that involves a huge amount of entities that literally have utterly nothing to do with your care-- hospital administrators, malpractice insurance corporations, etc. And a lot of these entities are there precisely because we refuse to move over to a more fully socialized system.

Republicans are not going to be able to propose realistic constructive change on the healthcare system (among other issues) until they grapple with two fundamental lies they tell themselves. One is that private is always better (unconditionally.) The other is that all of the bumper sticker logos they vote for like "no socialism" or whatever else translates most often into "plenty of socialism, for those who least need it, like Aetna and enormous insurance providers, at the expense of everyone being told to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and take on a third job to afford normal happenstance in life in the United States."

Huelskamp runs these quixotic campaigns because they are good on a conservative resume.

It's worth mentioning he has also reintroduced the Federal Marriage Amendment in the House and has 50 cosponsors already. It will never pass, but whether or not it has a chance is not really the point for him.

42nd vote? You ain't seen nutin' yet. They'll keep on voting against it because that's what republicans do. The republican house will waste time and money on this silliness until they're voted out of office.

True, but it's amusing to watch the Kool-Aid drinkers fall all over themselves spouting false information as though it were gospel. LOL

I agree. It's entertaining yet sad to see the right wingers fall for all their propaganda.

Even the AFL-CIO and Warren Buffet want to do away with obamacare.

Obamacare is killing the American people forcing employers to make their employees part-time and doing nothing to control costs.

Obama's gutzy, hateful, attacking speech during the mass murder yesterday shows how heartless and uncompassionate the man really is .. a real leader would have postponed the speech. At least someone at the WH had enough sense to stop the Latin booty bash last night.

Yes. And remember, Barack Obama will be President of the United States for the next three years. Just think of all the things he's going to do wrong in those three years. Imagine all the things he will get to be blamed for.

My oh my ..... what wonderful times we live in! We have someone to blame for all the problems in the world for another three years! We have a convenient scapegoat! After that, it will be all Hillary's fault for the following 8 years.

Go on being as angry as you like about how twisted your panties got at Obama's choice of when to have a particular speech. When your party runs things commercial airliners fly into windows.

Yet you refuse to engage in any discussion back when other members have written rebuttals against your original statements. For example, the biggest flaw of your study that "80%" of Americans are happy with their healthcare, is that it doesn't include the tens of millions of Americans who don't have healthcare and are not part of the happiness equation. That's like saying, "90% of Americans who are rich are happy to be rich."
