Inspector General: IRS 'scandal' nothing to do with Administration, everything to do with IRS/Treasury

1959 .... holy shit

No kidding.

Amazing how bureaucratic power can magically turn "exclusively" into "primarily" -- sorta shows who really runs the place.

Americans are coming to the realization that their President and his men are crooks.

... a condition that's been true as long as many on this board have been alive.

Listen to your fellow Americans outside of CE+P ... keep quiet and listen for a while.

omg Springer.

I can smell the flopsweat from you and your right wing reactionary cronies from

here.

You've got nothing. And your claims are getting wilder and more bizarre by the day.

IRS Official in Charge During Tea Party Targeting Now Runs ObamaCare Office

The Internal Revenue Service official in charge of the tax-exempt organizations at the time when the unit targeted tea party groups now runs the IRS office responsible for the health care legislation.

Sarah Hall Ingram served as commissioner of the office responsible for tax-exempt organizations between 2009 and 2012. But Ingram has since left that part of the IRS and is now the director of the IRS’ Affordable Care Act office, the IRS confirmed to ABC News today.

Her successor, Joseph Grant, is taking the fall for misdeeds at the scandal-plagued unit between 2010 and 2012. During at least part of that time, Grant served as deputy commissioner of the tax-exempt unit.

^ I'm still waiting for the source of the information that the IRS actually wiretapped the conversations of 100 journalists. I find lots of right wing opinion pages with the claim...but I'm waiting for Springer to give us the source in the other thread he started on the topic.

The woman who purposely leaked the IRS scandal story will take the 5th in Wednesday's hearing before Congress.

Lerner's defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III, wrote to the committee on Tuesday that his client would refuse to answer questions related to what she knew about the extra levels of scrutiny appled to conservative nonprofit organizations that applied for tax-exempt status beginning in 2010.

She also will decline to say why she didn’t disclose what she knew to Congress, according to the LA Times.

Lerner 'has not committed any crime or made any misrepresentation,' Taylor's letter read, 'but under the circumstances she has no choice but to take this course.'

Lawrence O'Donnell is finally bringing up (in long form, no less) the fact that the IRS deliberately disobeyed WRITTEN STATUTE by "misinterpreting" EXCLUSIVELY to mean primarily. Yes, this shit started in 1959. The point was brought up that a 501 (c)(4) doesn't even need to APPLY for their status, they can just start right away evading taxes. (And if they don't even need to APPLY, doesn't that mean they can be 100% political, and they're OK with the IRS?)

Yes, EVADING, not avoiding. This is TAX FRAUD.

I wonder if there's even a chance that Congress will act and require the IRS to follow the law, and disallow these "social welfare" organizations to be tax-exempt if they engage in even a small amount of partisan politics?

No, it's not going to happen. THE REPUBLICANS **LOVE** IT THIS WAY. And so do the Democrats.

This IRS "scandal" has interested me in part because it happened in Cincinnati, my current residence.

Cincinnati is Tea Party Central. I know a few people who work in the John Weld Peck Federal Building, including a few who work for the IRS there. To a man, EVERY ONE of them is a Tea Party crazy, intent on destroying the Democratic Party and President Obama in any way they can. And when I say crazy, I mean in the mold of Michelle Bachmann/Sarah Palin/Rand Paul/Herman Cain/Rick Perry/Christine O'Donnell/Glen Beck/Sharron Angle/etc.

There are probably not many places on earth that are less likely to be accused of being too pro-Obama.

I saw part of his program last night, patting himself on the back that someone actually heard what he said. Mr. Socialist is only trying to change the subject and redirect it. He's not addressing what happened.

The people went after conservative groups, not liberal groups.

I didn't watch the whole thing -- his voice grates on my nerves -- but I didn't hear if he condemned the Obama 501 c 4 -- somehow I doubt that he even mentioned it.

Cute antidotal response that doesn't mean anything.

Wait... just a few post above you tried to claim cute anecdotal "pulse of the nation" abilities. Weird... the shoe always fits on your foot.

Lerner took the fifth to follow counsel guidance. If you read any of the released emails that the the republicans were kind enough not to alter, you will find that Lerner is the one who shut this whole specific terminology down. TWICE and then leadership in the IRS directed that no modifications be made to search criteria unless top mgt were involved. Weird huh?

Tell us this Jack since you are so well informed, How many groups were actually denied tax exempt status? Of those denied, what flavor politically were they?

Actions speak much louder than words. So while you grasp at straws as a party and the country slowly and in spite of republicans recovers from the mess given to us by republicans. But hey hay hey... keep screaming, Sean Hannity will listen.
