Intel MacPro problems: Any ideas

Yay! Glad to see they isolated some of the problems..! You honestly shouldn't have any issues with Finale once you get it back. Oh, so you know I have a friend who uses it just fine now on Leopard on his Intel Mac Pro. He says it has a light pause sometimes like it's thinking but other than that it's pretty damn stable. Good news I guess.

Oh and because of you...now I'm saving up cause I want a new Mac Pro. *laughs*

Turns out it is a faulty keyboard, which Apple is replacing. The Colombian Tech also replaced a couple of memory chips that weren't reading right, and after switching keyboards with my eMac the Intel Mac Pro is humming along just fine tonight. When the new keyboard arrives next week, I'll be back in business too. Since the faulty keyboard is transposing hot keys, some of my punctuation will be off until the new one gets here.

Great news that you have a solution, anyway!

Re: the Windows/Mac screen issue, this sounds VERY strange. I'd suggest taking screen grabs anytime the problem occurs, and then email the images to Finale Support.

Press Command/Shift/3 and Mac OS will create a PDF file of the currently visible screen, placing it on the desktop.

I've already done that Andy, and it left them scratching their heads, and they then asked for a PDF file of the Mac's make up which I sent. After which, they pretended that we had solved the problem and canceled the service request. Now, they seem to have us on some sort of black list. They clearly think I'm pulling their leg.

I've been on Macs since they were first available, and I'll be the first to admit this Intel Mac is a first for me, but over the years most of the problems I've encountered were software generated. Finale's support sucks worse than any software company I've ever encountered, except for many years ago, when a bit of software that allowed me to lock up my Mac so one of my unknown employees who had been logging in and removing important files, couldn't get into it any more. The company told me they had back doors should their software fail, but it was a lie, and once it did fail, I couldn't get in and ultimately had to send the CPU to New Orleans from New Jersey so they could remove their lock and software. I had to pay both ways shipping, and they never apologized.

Depending on what you plan to use it for, a Mac Pro might be too much. The new iMac is incredible, and for what you get for the money, is the hottest computer ever offered to the home user.

Mac Pro is expensive, and intended for business use. We went with it because of Finale, and problems we read about on the Finale forum about RAM memory and playback power if the computer didn't have enough memory available to play compositions in real time. The iMac was not available when we bought the Mac Pro, and I can tell you now, that a maxed out iMac will give you all you need for Finale, and save you about $5,000 bucks while doing it.

There is a lot of misinformation floating around on the finale forum about memory requirements.

Good luck.
