Yeah I could do it, no problem. But why should I. I enjoy learning and interacting through it. It saves me from the telly and gives me choice and broadens my horizons. I do use computers for work to program systems but not every day. They enhance my life by removing drudgery and expense. I can program a fire alarm manually but it will take 10 times longer. I can call someone on the phone and it will cost infinitely more. I can drive to the post office to pay a bill and then queue or I can do it on line. I can't see what point I would be making by giving it up. I would watch the national news on tv and have no way of getting an alternative view point. I may watch a movie and have no way of finding out more about the actors, I could read a book, which I do any way, and not be able to share my thoughts or learn those of others on it etc etc. So I see no point in participating unless someone wants to sponsor me to do it for a good cause: perhaps enabling people in developing countries to get on the net so they can benefit from the information that is available on it.

I agree that there doesn't seem to be a real point. Not everyone uses computers just to play games and email people. I edit video, write, make movies, all kinds of productful activities that require my computer.

Is anyone going to really do this?

NO WAY!! I'm not even going to try!! I want to spend some time at JUB--- and it's monthly bill paying time!!

I get the impression that it's like an anti-Microsoft, anti-IBM, anti-establishment sort of thing. Computers are wonderful things. While I could go a day without turning on my laptop or interfacing with a computer personally, I wouldn't last long without a computer behind the things that I use on a daily basis...for example, electricity. Computers act as spectacular control systems for all sorts of processes.

i could easily do it on a weekday. my pc at home is only on about 4 hours a day m-f. but on the weekends it's on much longer. most of the day i'd say. i wouldn't be able to email my 70 year old mom 4 times a day ;) and i wouldn't be able to watch "tv" since i watch it on my pc (i don't actually own a TV set). plus i have to do my taxes this weekend. ;)

I never heard about it until today and now it's too late...

you'd think these people would make better use of technology to spread the word ;)
