I read sometime last week they'd want to use this cockroach get up to find survivors buried under rubble say after earthquake building collapse. For some reason, these creatures are gonna scare some folks. Controlling another living creature this way is deplorable, despite some claims for a noble cause.

A US company that has developed an "electronic backpack" that fits onto a cockroach allowing its movements to be controlled by a mobile phone app has defended itself against cruelty claims.

The Backyard Brains company says that the device is intended to get children to be interested in neuroscience.

A spokeswoman told the BBC that the device - being formally launched on Saturday - was not a gimmick.

But critics say that the company's stance is "disingenuous".

Truth be told, in my hierarchy of animals whose welfare I care for, cockroaches rate less than zero.
Just hate the thought of touching the critters to hook them up.

Lol. Apparently, if you see one, there are virtually hundreds lurking in the shadows. Tell you the truth, I've been in buildings where you switch on the light and a seething mass of black suddenly parts and there's this hair raising and spine tingling feeling of horror just washes over you. Imagine an army of them coming to your rescue ;)

Oh christ, they're fucking cockroaches. How can you be inhumane to something that can survive for a week without its brain? #-o

And now every time I see a shadow I'm going to think it's a cockroach. Fantastic -_-

I don't know if I like this.... Not because I think its inhumane, mind you. But have any of you seen just ONE of the Mimic films? This sounds almost as dangerous...

Are they afraid this company finally found a use for the cockroach?

"Humanity" is a human construct and really doesn't fit in with the rest of the planet's inhabitants... which are still operating on the "Survival of the Fittest" plan. We might all pretend to be politically correct, and humane, but the reality of it is, this is still a "dog eat dog" world with a working food chain.

sad.... folks care more about the safety and well beings of animals than their fellow human beings. wtf.

I rather stay under the rubble than to have a cockroach crawl right up next to me.

Torturing insects to gain knowledge though is incorrect. It's not about PC gone mad, it's the message we are sending to kids. Can someone please think about the children????
