Personally, I hate IE and Outlook Express, but I would recommend upgrading to IE 7. You can download the driver using firefox and install it manually.

probably active x crap...use Firefox, why do people insist on using IE????

Internet Explorer closes moments after I open it. Same thing with Outlook Express.

I scan my drives and it found a virus.
I ran Adaware

Im using Internet Explorer 6 (service pack 2) and want to keep it that way.
Im using Foxfire right now

I had a script appear two days ago.

Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks

Adaware is a great program, but it's not great for viruses. Best program that is free that will find viruses is AVG anti-virus free edition. I would also like to add that you might want to clean your cookies and catch from IE6. Also check to see if anything in the properties of IE/outlook have changed, could be as simple as just checking/un-checking something. Not sure what else I can say. Something like this happened with me and after what I did up above fixed it.

I do encourage that you to switch to another web browser (or upgrade), because IE6 dose have problems, security problems (though I still use it, and most if not all web browsers have problems).

Some notable web browsers are:
Google Chrome (vista/xp only)
Firefox 3
Opera

I hope that I was of some assistance. Other then what I stated and recommended to do, I wouldn't know much. I am more of a hardware person then software/program person. Good luck, and hope you can find a solution.

First off, at least update to IE7. When you say "Foxfire" I'm guessing you mean Firefox?

Where you say Service Pack 2 do you mean XP SP2? I'd highly recommend updating to SP3.

Then do a full virus scan with a half decent anti virus. AVG, ESET, Avast etc

I remember when Adaware and Spybot were good... I find them a bit old hat now and in my experience there are better programs out there.

Download and install Windows Defender - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...e7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&displaylang=en

Also, I would recommend downloading Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Do a scan with both Defender and Malwarebytes. They should find and remove any infections.

If problems persist then post back here.

Sorry, but I like Internet Explorer 6 (service pack 2) and it has been fine.

Obvoiusly not ;)

Why not update to IE7 and SP3? If you do not keep up to date then you are basically asking for problems.

They release updates for a reason.

Well at least you say that you are going to take the advice suggested which basically means not using IE6.

How you square that with not switching and not being converted is up to you but the human brain is capable of remarkable delusions.

Good to know that firefox is keeping you going where IE let you down ;)

I believe he's made it clear - twice - that he wants to continue using IE6.

Personally, I use IE6 on two computers without any problems and neve found Firefox to the end-all of browsers.

Start yourcomputer in safe mode and run a full virus scan.

You most likely have some kind of malware. It's most likely at least partly your own fault since you refuse to use an updated version of your browser. So I refuse to help you.

Updates are usually not only about features, but also about security. If you ignore that, it's pointless to try to help you.

You have some serious security issues here. First of all, that warning screen you posted is a fake. Read this: http://www.computerworld.com/action...sic&articleId=9124346&source=NLT_MSFT&nlid=74

When was the last time you did any kind of updating to your system?
Turn on Automatic updates and get your system current.
What anti-virus does your internet account provide? When was the last time it was updated? SP2 is almost 5 years old. You need SP3 plus any updates released after SP3. How current is the AdAware you ran? If your AV isn't cutting it get Avast or AVG. Both are free. Spybot S&D is good too. Suck it up. Use IE7 for a few days and you'll like it. Things change, get used to it. Otherwise your system will get so corrupted you will have no choice but to format the hard drive and start over. Then you'll have to install all the updates anyway.

Malwarebytes will get rid of Antivirus 2009.

AV 2009 is all over the internet. We went through a stage late last year that every other computer we had in for repair was for AV 2009 (Or one of its variants).

im looking for a good bookmark converter so i can at least manage in the mean time. I tried boomark converter 3.0 and it stalled after getting an error message

Huh? Why would you want that? Safari/Firefox can import bookmarks from IE.

Woah! Hold on a second! You are going to re-install Windows because of a simple Antivirus 2009 problem? Malwarebytes will remove this infection. And about the Firefox issue, why not just re-install it?

Ok Ok do it your way. How about next time instead of asking for help and not taking anyone's advice just save everyone time and do it your way first?

I can tell you Malware Bytes works as I have seen this infection many times and MWB works every time. If you don't want to take my word for it, maybe check Bleepingcomputer:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malware-removal/uninstall-antivirus-2009

Anyway, have fun removing all the trialware and re-installing all your programs on your newly restored computer...

LOL online-pc-virus-scan.com  My advice: get some decent anti-virus application, those online anti-virus scanners are scams (and probably will infect your machine beyond repair).

AVG, Antivir, Avast are free.

Also update to SP3 it fixes a lot of holes in your system.

I was about to ask the same thing. I don't know why you guys still care, he made it kinda obvious in his first posts that he might be asking, but is not listening ..

hey mark

you make want to make a manual copy of your bookmarks if you have any in firefox (or safari whatever you're using). then uninstall that firefox, restart computer, and reinstall firefox. see if that fixes firefox not opening. it sounded like earlier firefox got messed up earlier.
