  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

Interracial couple denied marriage license in La.

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."

I'm absolutely speechless over this statement.

Why does this man still have a job?

^ I was just going to quote that too, N.

And ask where, in your backyard? Because this judge is blatantly a racist asshole, no ifs ands or buts.

Who in their right mind would use that phrase to describe many friends, especially in this context?!? ](*,)

"I didn't tell this couple they couldn't get married. I just told them I wouldn't do it."

Imagine if two men or two women were to ask him to marry them

What an idiot. I hope I house falls on his head, that wicked, wicked man! It is 2009, not 1909.

aren't jp's usually elected into office?

anyhow, what an asshat.

This might be an unpopular statement but here goes: Before last year's election I would have been infuriated. I would have been calling him an idiot and a racist. Now, after that prop 8 disaster I can honestly say I don't give a rat's ass if this interracial straight couple ever gets married. I'd probably say "Wow, now you know how we feel."

I think we should respect his OPINION.

He has the right to his OPINION.

I would still be friends with him even though I'm black.

Not in his job he doesn't. He's bound by the law.

Nonsense. It's an approach on personal liberty.

I can still be friends with him.

After all I have to respect his opinions, and views and beliefs.....

I read that in the free paper on the train this afternoon. I hadn't thought attitudes like that still existed. Reminds me of the scene in the Simpsons where Rev Lovejoy locks the church doors when the Gays and Lesbians come to get married.

I don't understand why people are attacking this poor, poor man.

Just because he's against interracial marriage doesn't mean he's a racist!

We need to understand his views and respect his beliefs and understand his opinions and tolerate his views and understand his beliefs and respect his views and tolerate his opinions!

*phew*

I still think we should all be friends with him!

In fact, I'll invite him over for cookies!

I am absolutely gobsmacked that a Justice of the Peace would refuse to sign the licence due to the interracial nature of the couple.

This Justice of the Peace needs to be removed from office immediately.

You're kidding right?

It CLEARLY means he's racist.

You're just taking the piss right?

being factious?

No, of course not.

It doesn't mean he's a racist! Maybe his upbringing, religion or something made him this way. He just has a different view on a very delicate matter! What does his politics matter anyway?

We have to respect his opinion! His opinion doesn't mean he hates blacks or anything!

I can still be friends with him though!

Wow...that's wrong.

I'm a supporter of interracial dating. I love dating outside of my race and its sad that stuff like this is happening today. Crazy! ](*,)

He's still pissed about that other thread. But I think it went over most people's heads (we need a smilie for that)...

Exactly! Why wasn't he fired like yesterday?!

(luv your new Michael avatar :D )

I read this story this morning. I was going to make a thread but ya beat me to it. :grrr:

This guy is an idiot.

"Interracial marriages don't usually work out."

Well neither do 50% of marriages. But you don't see us denying half the people that get married the right to marry.

Nonsense. It's an approach on personal liberty.

I can still be friends with him.

After all I have to respect his opinions, and views and beliefs.....
