Iowa court rules same-sex couples can marry

The moment I heard this story yesterday, I had turned on a timer to countdown until the appellant court issued a halt and overturn on this ruling.

The catch is you just can't be married in Iowa?

How nice that ith all the horrors in the world we can take time to worry about gay marriages... that's where the REAL danger lies
 
Sadly, as I was reading the article, I knew that this would end up as a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

I don't think it will ever end here in the U.S.

SO...the thing is...two guys in that very small window of time did by all legal means and definitions got Married.Before the Courts blocked any legal marriage,they DID IT !!

Now they are a legal couple. If the SCOTSOI rules that the issuing Judge be overruled,are these two guys still legally couple ? Can the S.C. declare the Marriage Null and Void ?

I think they will remain legally married,as it was legal at the time.(that 2 hour +/- time window)

Already there are at least 5 countries, (Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, and South Africa) that have legal marriage and not to mention several that allow for civil unions....

Yet the U.S. still refuses this... WHY? Why is gay marriage such a horrible crime that it can't be legal? Why must the love between 2 people be considered such a hazard to anyone else?

We're in the grip of the Christianists and Bushistas, who think marriage will be defiled by "those people" (us) getting it. This is like the reader who wrote into Time magazine in the 1920s to "correct" them because they used the title 'Mr.' for a "colored" man. (To their credit, they were quite firm on continuing to use it for all adult males without superseding titles.)

This is shameful, but unfortunately far from the most shameful thing about my poor, benighted country. Abu Ghraib, for example, dwarfs it in shamfulness in my opinion.
