New iPad user.

Looking for information or links to enable me to download files from filesonic.com site or stream them on the iPad. Can this be done?

What other sites or apps can be used on the iPad. So much great stuff to watch.

I searched here but didn't find much so hopefully somebody will have the answer.

Any alternative to not having flash.

Thanks,

The only way I know is to use a regular flash enabled computer and use real player to download and then convert the file into one that you can put on your iPad. Hope you figure it out!

If you already have the video on your computer, and want it on your iPad for portability, use the VLC Media Player app which allows you to add videos direct from your computer without the need for conversion. It's great!

Only other thing I can suggest is to jailbreak the iPad. Not done it myself, only my old iPnone 3G but I'm told it's quite simple now, just do a bit of googling and see what you can find on it. Once it's jailbreaked you should beagle to get an app from jailbreak store which adds flash capabilities to iOS devices.

You could buy an airstash and transfer files to that and stream viewing movies from that or like scott said above jailbreak it. And download files from filesonic save them to a specified directory and get a universal player like VLC and play it.I'd check out all the video apps from installous and make a decision on what works best.

But if you have and Ipad 2 you might need to wait until a jailbreak comes out for it, which won't be too long.

Rockettube works without flash and youtube is supported by html5. Last I read flash was needed on less than 50% of sites with html5 growing quickly.

Here is a youtube vid about running youtube vids on the iPad

I set up youtube in html5 trial mode last year and have had no problems. Computer runs cooler too.
go to
http://www.youtube.com/html5 to join the trial
Even microsoft is supporting H.264 in ie8

There are however many porn sites that are still stuck with flash

I know nothing about jailbreaking but if you can put flash on an iPad, the iPad 2 would be a better choice because the processor is much faster and flash is a hog. Any demos I've seen of non-apple phones running flash were pathetic -- not really watchable but that was months ago. Adobe may have made a version that actually works.

If you have a movie you want to watch, the app Handbrake (for the Mac) will convert to .mp4 or .m4a that the iphone or iPad reads

The Skyfire browser app for iOS allows you to view online Flash video content on the iPhone/iPad.

There are various apps which allow you to view various video file formats without conversion. The VLC app is great but is no longer available, as the authors were breaching some kind of divX licensing requirement. Oplayer and YXPlayer2 are similar good apps, and still available.

To stream video from your own computer/server, the AirVideo app is awesome. I have a video server at home with some 700 movies and hundreds of TV shows etc, all in different formats. Airvideo streams any format the computer is capable of playing to your iPhone/iPad, providing access to my movie library anywhere in the world I have internet access. It also converts files to iOS-compatible mp4, if you'd like to store anything locally on the iOS device.

As mentioned above, the free Handbrake application (for Windows and Mac) also converts most video formats to iOS-compatible files.
