Sony, Asus and other brands already got a small laptop computer that size.

The iPad is THE BEST way to do X .. and Y .. and Z - and everytime I said to myself.. "uuh .. nope."
And then just look how they handle/hold that thing. Like they were working with a fragile piece of glass. I think it's more comfortable to have my laptop on my knees then having this thing lying "flat" somewhere and needing to bend my neck to look over it. only advantage over a laptop is if you need to work standing without a table or so ..
 
It's an oversized iPod Touch. It doesn't have multi-function capability. It doesn't replace a laptop, or macbook.

You end up paying heaps more for peripherals.

With that amount of money, you're better off getting either a macbook or a laptop.
 
It looks good and all but I would rather spend money on a laptop that can do pretty much the same thing. I like sitting down at a desk to go online not hold onto something and flip it and rotate it in my hands like that. Okay my iphone is amazing but I like to get in front of a computer to surf the web. I don't think this is offering anything more than an oversized version of the iphone.

Oh and as usual with these things a newer, improved version will come out in less than 12 months time leaving this one obsolete. It happened with my iphone when the 3Gs came out. Talk about a con.
 
I'll wait until they improve it and come out with a new edition in about a year or so. Because that's what they always do. And will do again, I'm sure. ;)

Where's the market place? Commuters and others like me who are stuck with the laptop from hell (read: work) that has so many security restrictions that you can't have any fun with it. The iPad is not so heavy that you can't carry it along in your case and the price is reasonable.

I don't need yet another camera or phone or webcam. It's the perfect solution for me. ..|
 
I don't use my phone nearly enough to get an iPhone.

I will not be coughing up money for this tablet. It was disappointing. I'm waiting for the Google Tablet or HP Tablet...I like a full operating system so I can play things such as WoW.

It's a large iPod touch with a sprinkle of kindle-ness.

Although it's apparently stupid and useless, it'll catch on I predict......the dedicated iZombies will rush to pay for any iProduct that iGotYou (Apple) produces.....even if it has quirks and shortfalls, they will buy it just for the sake of saying "I was the first in line to get yet another i-something!"

The problems is the the Apple iFanBoys will not be enough to make the product a success. It needs mass appeal to do that, and it doesn't have that. Watch Apple stock fall in a month or two.

AND it needs to be cheaper. Should start at $299. A good web book goes for that and can do more. Still, it is a niche that will get filled.

i'd like to go on record and predict the reverse. it's going to gain big traction. while not a groundbreaking device itself, it brings together a few key technologies they've developed in a very marketable, extremely sleek device. it's not expensive, it's pretty robust under the hood, and debuts Apple's own silicon. the screen is jaw dropping responsive, and this is going to test the water before they start producing them the size to hang on a wall. completely integrated home entertainment and "surface" driven casual computing. watch for it in 2015.
