I thought about posting this in the "Health" thread but I don't want people to judge.

My iPhone screen is cracked..AGAIN. This originally happened with my first gen iPhone and THIS was before AT&T changed everything with the terms of the iPhone and you could simply pay for a new one without the contract or certain credit card companies would actually pay for it becuase of their terms or something.

Now the way it works is you are fucked in every way. I am not eligible for a new one without a contract or the upgrade to 3GS until June of next year. If I buy a new iPhone I have to pay the oh so fun 599 or 699 with a new contract. Which means if a new iPhone comes out next year or a little later after that I'm not eligible.

However, if my iPhone is eligible I can have it fixed for 200 and than I don't have to get a new contract, I back up my data and it would be like the same iPhone except a different shell. And I'd be eligible for an upgrade in June. However, after calling apple the way for it to be qualified for a fix is a spider web crack or pin crack. I think I have 5 or 6 spider web cracks. I heard of a friend of mine (female) asking them to fix hers. I think she might have been flirty or seductive. Either way she got a new one for free. Paying some attractive woman to go in there and seduce them might work :(

Or hell maybe I can do that myself :D. Okay back to being serious and actual solutions.

A somewhat other alternative is buying a non iPhone (dies inside) and than getting a new contract but can possibly find a cheaper phone maybe even around 100 that I can maybe live with but than another 2 til I'm eligible for an upgrade. 2 years without an iPhone ](*,)

The thing is I REALLY need a phone for Pride this year. I must absolutely have a way for people to contact me. So if I need to get a new phone that's not an iPhone (I'd still have the same sim card and number) than that unfortunately is the option that I'd have to do.

Here is something that I really need answered. The rest is really just rants and me being pissed off and trying to figure out a solution.

These are pictures of the damage. I apologize for my ugly hand getting in the way.

Is there ANY way that I can somehow maybe glue some parts back together or something to maybe hold it together or keep it from breaking apart. Any tools? Because if they can't fix it and if I can at least keep it from breaking until June of next year than that will work too.

If anyone knows of a way or some kind of screen protector or replacement that might work that would work too. Just anything but the 599 or 699 + 2 year contract. No way in hell I can afford that right now.

Thank you.

I placed it on the printer paper and than it slide off and hit the floor.

I am going to take it to the apple store today and see if they can fix it. If not I found some sites online that you send it to them and they can fix it.

just looking at that picture makes me so, so sad :( I do not have an iPhone, but I have dropped my ipod touch many times and luckily it has not cracked! I dropped my macbook today and I can hear rattling inside :( :(

We really need to be careful with technology. It is very fragile and as of now, cannot stand constant drops. Hopefully in the future, devices will be tougher.

And to the at&t- thats ridiculous.!!!!! You have to sign a new contract, EVEN after you paid the non contract price??? WTF I can understand paying non contract price and being on the same plan you have, but what they are doing is so unethical. We dont have at&t in Canada, but Bell, Rogers, etc are all the same...
Technology- you cant live with it, you cant live without it!

i think you probably already found the solution. there are lots of places online that will repair ipods, iphones, etc. that's probably your best bet. i saw one on tv once. sometimes it literally only takes them a few minutes to fix them. but i can't remember the name of that place. sorry :(

I know I fucking hate AT&T. They lock you in their death contracts and than you have so many limits and you have to deal with their bullshit.

They underestimated the iPhone when it first came out and DID NOT EVEN PREPARE the network for 3G usage and because of that 3G used to not work at all, MMS was delayed, when MMS was announced it was still delayed, and even though they said teethering we still don't have it (in america) yet. AT&T is complete fail and they reject apps or they blame apple on something. There is an annoying love hate thing with Apple and AT&T and they just love to blame each other and it's never clear who's fault it is. Although I'm sure they both share some blame.

I hope apple goes to other carriers and not just AT&T.

But yeah. I took the latter. My dad took it to the apple store since i couldn't go. I was in school. They took it and gave me a used one for 200. While that doesn't sound good the two things that are good about it are this. The most important is that I AM STILL ON CONTRACT. It expires in June THANK GOD. The second is that the refurbished ones really are like new.

If i bought a new one it would be 599 or 699. And for some reason buying a refurbished directly requires a new contract. I'm not sure why they give you a refurbished without contract if your phone is cracked. I never got that.

If you go to an Apple Store - not an AT&T store - they should still let you pay $199 for a replacement phone with no contract extension, many, many people have been told this is the case by staff at the Genius Bar.

I don't understand why that is though. And yes I did do what many have done and gone for the 200 dollar replacement phone.

I don't understand why if I were to get a 3G or 3GS NEW that I'd have to pay over nine thousand I mean 500 hundred for it. Same as why that same concept applies with buying a new or refurbished one online.

I think the refurbished ones online should be no commitment to the contract either. I don't understand why your iPhone has to break for them to give you a refurbished one withou the contract. That's what puzzles me.

But for now it is the best solution for those who crack their screens.
