For the last week, my iPhone alarm won't go off in the AM. I heard that there was a glitch on the first day of the year, but even on the second there seems to be a problem.

Anyone familiar with the problem?

It's due to be fixed "by Monday" - so if that's true, you can check if it's back to normal by tomorrow. :) But it was known to be an issue both on Saturday, January 1st and Sunday, January 2nd:

A problem that has caused several iPhone alarm clocks to fail will be fixed by Monday, a statement from makers Apple has suggested.
..
An Apple spokesperson, Natalie Harrison confirmed to Macworld that they were aware of the problem and were expecting to get it fixed by Monday (January 3). She told the technical paper, "we're aware of an issue related to non-repeating alarms set for January 1 or 2, customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning January 3".
..

What's up with this?:

The glitch affects both January 1 and January 2.

I believe you should be okay for the rest of the year (or at least, until the next bug is found).

Apple's "fix" was for you to set a recurring alarm. Only one-time alarms on Jan1 and Jan 2 were affected, apparently.

oh, trinket beat me! :grrr:

I was nearly late for work because of this yesterday.

This is the 2nd time Apple has had something wrong with the Clock app. This is ridiculous. I'm buying a 3rd party alarm app.

Tell me about it. I'm so pissed at the alarm clock fiasco. I didn't have to go to work but I was supposed to meet my BF on skype at 7:30 am and totally slept through it.

Thanks Trinkett and TRexx too. Those digits are random. I put them there after I accidentally did a duplicate post.

So something was up and I wasn't dreaming. I noticed this too but didn't remember well if the alarm went off or not. Luckily, I put my radio alarm as well and that woke me up

I luckily haven't needed an alarm for the past week or so, they'd better fix this fast though.

some iphone os developers forgot to check their corner cases! lol

Or you could just do what every tech site on the planet posted and set it as a recurring alarm and you'll be fine. If you have an iPhone you can use google to find out what's up. At this point if you haven't, then you have no right to bitch about it.

So I'm supposed to google 'iPhone' every other week to find out what bug I have to do some weak fix for?

There are people out there who have iPhones who aren't aware of this bug.

It's dumb. Apple should've had AT&T text every user and explain the bug.

Or even better, they need to start doing over-the-air updates via the App Store.

No. If your alarm didn't go off but you know you set it, a normal person would have googled it to find out if there was something wrong.

Or, you know, don't depend on a PHONE as your main alarm clock.

Why can't I depend on my phone as my main alarm clock? My old LG and Nokia phones worked flawlessly as an alarm clock.

And then where does that stop? Should I stop depending on my phone to read e-mails? Hold contacts?

You should probably stop sipping the Apple kool-aid. They knew about the bug and offered no fix.

What makes you think they knew about it? Apple hasn't acknowledged its existence yet.

All I'm saying is that if you depend on a piece of technology that you KNOW is going to have glitches as your primary alarm without any backup, you have no right to bitch when something goes haywire.

A few years ago, I had a basic AT&T GoPhone. It was a fine telephone, but every time I used the alarm clock, they charged my account something like $0.05! The app was local on the phone, but it reported back to AT&T that I had used it, so that I would get charged! :grrr:

I'm with Elephunk here. If one of the biggest technology companies on Earth can't make an alarm ring on time, something is ridiculously wrong.

I have a right to expect that a device I spent almost $1000 on will do what it claims to do. If it says it will ring a bell at 7AM on January 1, it should do so.

Apple have some 'splaining to do.

I have recurring alarms on mine and they were fine. It did have a problem with daylight saving back in October but I didn't thow my rattle out of the pram and throw a tantrum. I just looked it up and worked my way round it. I think sometimes we become far too reliant on technology and would occasionally do well to step back and appreciate what we have.

All you have to do is delete the alarms and re-add them and they will work recurring or not. They didn't know about the bug in time to fix it. This was an issue for many early Android users too including me (random alarm clock issues).
