I can't update to the latest software upgrade because my backup for my iPhone is corrupt.

Has anyone else had this problem? How did you resolve it?

And also, could someone tell me the exact location of this file for their iPhone on their PC? ( iPhone2,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw )

I was reading a tech forum and someone suggested deleting the backup and then and then syncing to create a new backup. No luck. Luckily, I didn't delete my recycle bin where the backup went. I just can't find where it originally was.

Thanks!

Hehe, I had this *exact* problem the other day when I updated, but was fixed by deleting all backups (make sure you don't need them first!!) and then restarting iTunes :)

The software updates will be here on Win7/Vista (/appdata directory):
C:Users(PROFILENAME)AppDataRoamingApple ComputeriTunesiPad Software Updates

Oh, the backups are somewhere in that directory as well i think :)

This is all providing that you're on Windows of course :)

Tom ;)

(guess where the backslashes go: it deletes them on here...) :(

I deleted the backups under devices and then uninstalled and restalled iTunes. Not much success.

Under devices in the preferences window, there are no backups on record.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks a lot too!

Hmm, thats odd, so there aren't any backups stored, and you cant make any?

That's a bugger then :)

In this case personally, I'd just reflash the phone with the latest firmware update and start from scratch, but if you cant revert to your old settings once done (via a backup) this could be a little annoying eh!

Only thing I can think of is (if you still have a backup copy) move it to another PC to the same location and try doing it that way (but you'd have to log in to iTunes with your credentials first).

Sorry I can't be of more help!
Tom

Thanks Tom. This is what they told me at the Genius Bar. I'm now searching for a third party software that will copy the music and photos I have. Know any?

Thanks again.

No need my good man! Just go to the My Music directory. This is where all bought music is kept by default, so you can just drag and drop it to wherever you like for backup.

If you're trying to get music off the iPhone that is different to whats stored on your PC already, good luck.
Apple doesn't want you doing that, so as you said, third party software would be needed (which I have no idea about unfortunately).

Tom

I dont know if this would help at all but i think that you need to find a restore file
Since the fact that everyone in the mother has iphone have diffrent companys so theres a bunch of sites out there that posted all the firmwires so they can jailbreak
But you can use that to your adavnage now
http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
here a site where they put on the firmwires
Just the thing is it prolly delete all the stuff on your phone

I got to your post just before I hit restore(sigh of relief)... Music directory in iTunes?

It's under My Documents\My Music\(somewhere here)

I always tell iTunes to put it onto another drive so i needn't worry about them being removed/lost :)
