IPhone in Airplane Mode

I'm travelling south and want to take my IPhone to read from. If I put it in Airplane mode will that turn off the phone part? I don't want to get charged roaming charges.
 
If you still want to use Wifi while over there, you can leave Airplane Mode off, but turn off Cellular Data under Network in Settings (to prevent any email/mobile Internet), and just don't make any calls or SMS.
 
Be sure to keep your iPhone in airplane mode while in flight.

Otherwise, you'll take out the plane's control systems, resulting in a firey crash. Then you and everyone else on board will be dead.
 
P.S. - Please don't tell the terrorists about this.

To answer your question, yes.

When you land, take it out of Airplane Mode and then General > Network > Enable 3G / Cellular Data / Data Roaming should all be set to OFF, if you don't want charges. ..|
