iPod FAILING!! HELP!!

Here is my suggestion on how to fix the problem....

1. Standup
2. Take IPod in hand
3. Walk to window
4. Open window
5. Throw IPod out of said window.
6. Buy a different MP3 player.

IPods are crap...lol
 
well aren't we being melodramatic ive lost everything lol its still on your computer ;)

did you drop it or do something to damage it if not and its under a year old you should be covered under warranty if its older than a year its pretty much not worth fixing unless you want to do it yourself as apple charge a fortune like $100 for a battery so a hard drive would be more than that
 
my first generation iPod finally gave out not too long ago. it was the battery. I went to Fry's, bought a replacement battery for $30 and replaced it myself. As for the hard drive, can't help you there. It can be done, I just don't know how.
 
Get a Zune. Microsoft really suprised me. It is an excellent peice of Hardware...and the interface and features are great.
 
This isn't an ipod problem as such, it is a hard drive problem and is the price you pay for having a device that can store so much. Anyone with a hard drive based device should know the importance of backing up as all are subject to mechanical failure.
 
on my 4th 40GB iPod I had the click of death you described.

I read online to smack the front of the iPod (protected of course) on a hard surface. Supposedly the head gets stuck on the platter, and this 'unsticks' it.

Worked for me. I plugged it in after the second try and was like WTF!? it works!!!! :]
 
^ if that really works you now have at least a few damaged sectors on the HD.

anyway .. since the iPod is mainly an expensive fashion statement .. don't worry. even it doesn't play songs anymore you can still carry it around.
 
since it's a HD problem you might try the "in a freezer" option for a bit. there is some evidence to suggest that some hard drive errors, like sticking platers or whatever, can be temporarily "fixed" by cold temps. i've never put a hard drive in the freezer, but the only hard drives i've had fail, were before i knew about that.

don't know if it would help a ipod. but you could try and maybe get a few minutes of work out of it and if you don't already have it backed up maybe that will give you time to back it up.
 
People say never iPods. I would never change from an iPod personally. I love them and I have never had a smallest problem with them in the past 7 to 8 years I've been using them. It goes on personal experience; for those who have had problems with them, they shun it and say it's crap (as I probably would have done if it had gone wrong). But for those who have never had problems with them, they're a life compulsion. I couldn't live without my iPod. I love it. And I think they are the most aesthetically pleasing out of all the mp3 players as my personal preference.

i think that many mp3 player makers a catching up and passing on this front

Lol, your prolly right.
When you do a full format on the drive doesn't it map out the damaged sectors?
I've never really understood that.
 
no .. you need to run checkdisk or something similar to do that. i am not sure if you can do that on an iPod without any problems.
