So I found out I have minor irritable bowel syndrome, anyone know if this has any ramifications when it comes to sex?

Hey, I also have minor IBS, and yes, it does affect my sex life a bit, but you can take measures to make sure it affects you as little as possible.

I take a probiotic and drink a glass of metamusil every day. This has helped keep me pretty regular. Also, you can avoid trigger foods. For me this is anything very spicy, beans, corn, and red meat. I can still eat those things, just in moderation. Some say a diet high in fiber helps, but it didn't help me.

As far as sex goes, clearly you should have no problem topping or doing any other activity that doesn't involve your butt. That said, it's still possible to bottom if that's something you're interested in. With my current boyfriend, I bottom most of the time. What I've found, for me, is that I can use the bathroom before sex and just put a lubed finger up there and check to make sure everything is clean. If it's a bad day, we do other things. If it's a little unclean, I can usually clean out manually in a minute or two, wash my hands, and be good to go.

Sorry if that was too graphic, but I just thought you'd like to know it is possible to do anything you want sexually. Just pay attention to your body and what it's telling you. Avoid anything that triggers a bad day, and if you want to bottom you may need to spend a little time prepping.

Good advice there.

In part it depends on what type of IBS you have. Some people lean towards constipation issues, while others have diarrhea, while others alternate between them. I've always leaned towards the diarrhea sidea, which can lead towards bottoming issues. You just have to learn your body and its signals, and as said, know what your triggers are and respond accordingly.

It's certainly doable, you just have to learn how to deal with it.

Actually, that is the exact type of frank information that was needed.

Thanks for your honesty about it.

That's a good point, it does depend on what type of IBS you have. I have alternating constipation and diarrhea, but more often C. Metamusil actually helps for either, despite being advertised mainly for constipation. If you do mainly have issues with D, then the best advice is to just be aware of when it's a good day, and when it's not. If you're planning on bottoming, I would advise you to first get comfortable with it by yourself. Get a toy, or use fingers. Do this a 3-4 times a week, and you'll begin to figure out when it's a clean day, and when it's not.

Mine is really minor, but because I don't eat a lot of fiber, when its triggered i turns into a very bad day... lucky for me I know what triggers it (caffeine mixed with hunger and lack of sleep)

Just follow the advice on this website: http://www.helpforibs.com/

Its general dietary advice; worked for me. In a nutshell, work-out, destress, don't eat anything deep fried, avoid dairy and red meat. Add soluble fiber to your diet and avoid whole-grain bread.

I bottom several times a week for the past few months, never an issue.

Good luck!!

I have a pretty bad case of IBS of the constipation variety. How IBS affects your ability to bottom probably depends on which type you have. The most important thing is to learn to listen to your body. I have been pretty successful at not letting my gut issues impact my sex life too much. I am primarily a bottom and have learned that there are just times when you have to do something else. A small anal douche with warm water helps for those times when I want to have sex and am a bit plugged up. Most of the time there are no issues at all.
