Hi guys, i have been thinking of buying myself a PSP lately but dont know if its a good investment. it is a cool piece of gadgetery, but is it worth the cash? I would like to know from those of you who have bought one what your thoughts are about the PSP. Also is it possible to chip a PSP like they have done with the PS2? Thanks guys.

I bought mine a couple months after it came out. But the problem is no the graphics, capabilities, or cost...

The problem is how many games there are, there arent nearly enough. And the ones that are there arent very good IMO.

The graphics are great for a handheld but the DS has the game selection.

The PSP is more of a lhandheld media player. It works great for that if you have multiple Memory Sticks so you can store lot of movies on them without getting raped with UMD Movies from wallyworld.

my $.02

Well if you want a lot of other stuff I would say yes. If you just want to play games and stuff, go for a DS.

I have to agree with isuckmen (I suppose in more ways than one :D). I've had a PSP for about 18 months, my #1 problem has been finding good games. Oh there are a few out there, but there are sooooo many bad games that it really is tough finding the gem.

The other issue with the PSP is the layout of the controls. The lack of two joysticks (left/right) makes the ports of some games just not play correctly. I think this is one of the reasons that many of the games are just really awkward and not fun on the PSP.

Personally I think the lack of real high quality games is the #1 problem with both the PSP and PS3. Just a few really killer games would blow both of these platforms out the door.

If you decide to buy a PSP do yourself a favor and subscribe to GameFly for a few months so that you can test drive a lot of games. This way you can weed out the duds and find the games that you are willing to spend some hard earned cash on.

BTW - for what purpose do you want to chip the PSP?

Remember that the games are stored in UMD format (you cannot burn these types of disks). I suppose you can copy a game to a memory stick, however these are fairly expensive and only hold one or so games each. So unless you spend a few hundred on memory sticks your going to be copying games on your computer every time you want to play something else.

Get a PSP or DS, subscribe to GameFly (or similar) and find the games you love and spend the money on those... makes you happy... and legal :-)

A modded PSP will let you play games from NES, Super NES, Playstation one, Sega Genesis and other things. I can't remember. But still if i have an urge to play super mario bros....I'll just play it on my computer.
