In this new show, Tim Allen plays a manly, "blue collar" macho American dad surrounded by women (his wife & his daughters).

That's the new one? Seriously? Why did they cancel the old ones? why don't they put different actors as wives and kids in the original one? it's not like that has never been done in successful American TV shows.

Who cares if he actually has a mind *pun*: his shows and movies have always been the quintessential decadent all-American-ish self-complacent hick&wasp bore.

Well, it's all too normal that if you are a good-for-nothing, with no talent and ideas of your own, you stick to being a crowd-pleaser-teaser to survive and make your decent living: at least he is just pretending to be an actor, instead of pretending to ACT as a politician.

As interesting as the drama is here, I'll just focus on the original topic:

Who cares if Tim Allen plays a homophobic, racist, asshole on a TV show? The fact that you assumed he may be a Republican is all the answer I think you need, JayQueer.

I'm glad to see that Allen is taking heat for this though.

As many have now pointed out, it is particularly unfunny because it deals with a kid.

And implies that environment is what makes kids homos.

If Tim Allen wants to demonstrate his character's limited perspective and conservativism, he needs to get better writers that aren't going to get into the dangerous waters of homosexuality and child development.

The problem with this 'joke', is that a good portion of his knuckle dragging alpha male audience will not only think it is funny....but that it is true.

Maybe he should be looking at a really funny show: Modern Family. If Ed Bundy could make the transition from bigoted lunkhead to the bemused and supportive Dad of a metrosexual boy........and milk it for its comedic worth, then Allen should have been able to leap into this decade as well.
