Poor Focus on the Family is hurting. Laying off workers, losing donations, whining and crying about gay marriage. Sorry they deserve all it gets.

Is Anti-Gay Group "Focus on the Family" Dying as Donations Drop? A Look Back at 7 of Their Strangest and Most Appalling Moves
As donations fall and jobs are cut, are Focus on the Family's days of using gay rights as a wedge issue finished?
September 19, 2011 |

When George W. Bush defeated John Kerry for the presidency in 2004, pundits claimed that the wedge issue of gay marriage--up for popular vote in many a state that went "red"--had been a deciding factor, the boogeyman reason many middle American types couldn't commit to a Democrat.

At the time, gay marriage felt like a third rail, and a hopeless one. Prominent right-wing groups like Focus on the Family and its allies seemed successful in their efforts to "otherize" LGBTQ Americans and use bigotry and fear to prevent progress.

I'm shocked there are still enough morons around to donate $95 million to this ridiculous organization.

LOL.... that stuff is good.... man.

Go right on ahead!

You can look as "corn-fed" as some of those other hayseeds up there in Kansas. ..|

"They call here Dimples down at the trailer park, because she has fat knees."

Seriously though, when I discovered that Chick A Filet was donating money from my purchases directly to these groups, who were in turn influencing elections against our Equality as Americans, I was just as hurt to have to make the decision to no longer patronize their establishments.

Anyways....

I am so much NOT a boycott type guy. I just dont see it serving a purpose besides making me eat chicken elsewhere....

I'm sure that if we keep purchasing Chick A Filet sandwiches with a side of waffle fries, that Focus on the Family will be able to make due with the donations that they received. ..|
We should! It's soooooooo yummy! (!)
But seriously, I hope these reduced donations represent a trend. ..|

Anecdote alert! I have a friend (born again Christian) who suspects that his son is gay. The last time I visited my friend, the homepage of Focus on the Family was on his PC. I think he's scared shitless that his son is going to Hell and FOF is his source of solace. Unfortunately, I think organizations like FOF offer false hope and only generate anxiety, or worse. Very sad.

Actually had to do some research on them but like Planned Parenthood, they actually do other things besides being a one-issue group. Just like PP doesn't just do abortions, FF isn't just anti-gay. They are like "secular" Good Samaritans. They help out impoverished people. I still wouldn't donate to them but it helps to understand what a group of people are before rallying against them.

They do far worse than that. They actually provide justification for the anguish and cruelty that some of those families put their gay children through.

"Tough love," and "saving their souls," kind of claptrap.

Most parents want to protect their children from harm, and Focus on the Family actually encourages the destruction of families by convincing those families that their child is "making a choice" for "that lifestyle" and they're going to burn in hell with their child if they don't do something about it.

Chick A Filet shares their proceeds of profits given to them by members of the LBGT Community through the purchase of their products to continue to support Focus on the Family.

I think that if they had any idea the pain and destruction that FoF has actually caused good God Fearing Christians and their progeny, that they might second guess that tax deductable "donation."

Actually had to do some research on them but like Planned Parenthood, they actually do other things besides being a one-issue group. Just like PP doesn't just do abortions, FF isn't just anti-gay. Well to be fair, Chick A Filet also donates to other "Christian" groups to provide toys for children during Christmas, food banks, and food shelters, and other "Christian" life and Christ Teaching charities.

And I have no problem with any of that. [-X

But I've seen first hand was Focus on the Family has done to friends and families that I know struggling with how to deal with the knowledge that a child of there's might be gay, it not only was it "not pretty" it was horrible.

James Dobson, the Leader of Focus on the Family is about as well reasoned as Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell, when it comes to the teachings of Christ.

People actually put the word of that guy over what their hearts tell them to do, and their own understanding the Teachings of Christ.

If Chick A Filet announced tomorrow that they no longer supported organizations that promoted the destruction of family unity, love, and cohension, and issued a directive forbidding the franchise owners from doing the same, I'd be lined to give them as much business as I could find converts.

Until then my taste buds will be a martyr to the cause. ;)

I have seen chick filet around but I cannot remember ever eating there. Not a boycott, just a Whataburger fan.
Even after hearing their side of donating to FOF, I still would not go there, again not a boycott.
I hope the reduction of donations is a trend for FOF and their eventual demise.
As for Chic filet, I do like their billboards.

Forget the politics for a minute, WHY is anyone eating at that kind of place anyway? I include McD, BK, Wendy, Arby, Taco B, KFC, and all the others. Even when traveling I'd rather stop by a good supermarket and get something from the deli. Or here's a thought: stop by a real restaurant and get a real meal.

When I was in graduate school my classmates went to McD; I went to a local restaurant, had a nice breakfast filet, eggs, fries, toast and coffee for less than they spent. (I did not count the Bloody Mary.)

On Topic: Good.

They're not the only ones. Of the small batch of such groups that I monitor by getting their e-mail letters, one has said they're facing a 7$ million shortfall, another a $5 million shortfall.

Focus on the family was once a good outfit, providing family counseling and conflict resolution. I vaguely remember the hurricane that ensuded when Dobsob's Dare to Discipline came out very clearly in favor of spankings, with the admonition to be sure to make the kid cry. I don't recall the name of it, but another book had come out about the same time, applying the Old Testament phrase "Come now, let us reason together" as a guide for good child-rearing. I went to some Christian gathering where in the bookstore tent both books were on sale, and the animosity between the two groups of book/author fans was palpable.

That was when I started rethinking and watching Dobson more closely. It was when he turned his focus to the political realm that I realized he was a loser and lost cause.

It would be a delight to see his organization get back to its roots of helping people (as for some other organizations, it would be a delight to see them die).

I seldom, if ever, make my threads On Topic. I find more can be discussed than my OP. Like yours. It's a good example of why so many in the US are obese.
I've just about quit my addiction to Whataburger.

I hope Focus on the Family closes down. And I don't eat Chick A Filet.

Living in Corpus Christi, Texas I'd be shocked if you weren't! ;)

Because you and I know that a Whataburger, is What a Burger Should Be! ..|

Originated in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950, and still the National Headquarters!

I like their WhataChicken Sandwich with Jack Cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato and mayo. :D

Their WhataCatch fish sandwich is made using a whole Cod, southern fried, topped with cheese, lettuce with tarter sauce served on a fresh bun. Yummy! :luv:

And they don't publicly donate to Republicans, or Right Wing causes! ..|

Made just the way we like it. :p

Their ad campaign is fun, I'll admit that, and so is their food.

I just don't patronize businesses who support organizations that hurt people.

Now that FoF is hurting, boo moo!

When I travel, or usually like to drive, or rent a car once I'm where I want to be.

A couple of years ago I was driving up the Maine Coast toward Canada, and stumbled upon a Taco Bell.

What the HELL?

I didn't make my way all the way up from Texas to eat at a freakin' Taco Bell in Maine. [-X

I wanted a Lobster Roll from some road side Mom and Pop outfit, and I didn't stop driving until I found a place!

The Lobster was caught fresh that day, and it was awesome! ..|

The Mom and Pop could have been the biggest Right Wing nuts in that part of Maine, but we didn't talk politics, they took the time to sit with me and to hear about my travels, and didn't mind serving me "iced sweet tea," as we set by the harbor on the deck that the family built, and they didn't even make fun of my Texas "accent" ....much. ;)
