Is anyone not voting for Obama or McCain?

At this time, the only candidates on the ballot is Texas are McCain (R), Obama (D), Barr (L), and a write-in candidate named Thaddaus Hill.

http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/candidates/general/2008gensbs.shtml

No other party is qualified for the Texas ballot, and the deadline for filing as an independent is passed. The deadline for filing as a write-in is August 26.

The only Thaddaus Hill I could come up with is a professor in the social science division of Blinn College. Blinn is a junior college in Brenham, TX.

So it looks like it's slim pickin's on the Texas ballot. I'll be voting for Obama, thank you very much.

I am leaning toward McCain. Obama will not get my vote because I have a huge issue with Democrat policies and their platform. The Constitution protects from the extreme right and those religious zealots. However, it does not protect me from the extreme left or socialist pigs who want to use our tax system to spread misery around equally. So I have to use my 1 vote.

I honestly wish we had a viable 3rd alternative. Bob Barr is not a very attractive candidate for the Libertarian Party. I was pushing for the ex Minn Gov Jesse Ventura who is the only person in politics who does not put his fucking finger in the air. He will tell you what he thinks. A fiscal conservative who wants to cut federal spending and return the surplus back to the people while at the same time being a social liberal where gays would have rights. But that dream of mine is gone this election.

But what happens if a third party actually gets some ground in this election? A lot of people are not satisfied with Obama or McCain, so they will be voting for a third party. While it's not likely for a third party candidate to win, or even win a single state, do you think that a third or fourth or fifth party might have more relevance to American politics after this election?
Most polls that I have been following put Barr and Nader at around 2% each. I do not see them gaining any ground either and will not affect the election as they are probably pulling votes equally from each side.

With most Americans wanting to end the war, high gas prices and with a somewhat weak economy, does anyone find it odd that Obama has yet to pull above the 50% in any reliable poll. Rather he has been at a consistent mid to high 40 percentile while McCain in the mid to low 40 percentile...with registered voters. If you poll likely voters the race is a dead heat and one recent poll by USA Today with likely voters had McCain up by 4 and Obama up with registered voters. This race could become a race between the old versus the young.

Well, we have another write-in candidate in Texas. In addition to Barr and Hill, another alternative is Brian Moore. Moore is the candidate for the Socialist Party, but he will not appear on the Texas ballot. He is qualified in Texas as a write in.

Notably absent from the Texas ballot at this point are Cynthia McKinney and Ralph Nader. Thus far, their Texas supporters would have to choose among Obama, McCain, or Barr, or they could write in Moore or Hill.

What's the difference between (say) Moore, who is a "write-in candidate", and Nader, who won't appear on the ballot? I've always thought you can write in whoever you please for any of the races.

Not voting for neither. Good and honest politicians just aren't out there or there is not enough of them.

^ and ^^. Sorry to say it guys, but you thereby "deserve what you get" and the attitude often leads to big-ass mistakes like G-dub. So the candidates aren't ideal. I'll let you in on a secret. . . they never have been, nor will they ever be. All we can hope for is that a compromise settles closer to OUR vision of ideal than that of the opposition. Progress can only truly be made in small steps.

I urge to to reconsider about voting. Look at the candidates. Take stock of whether Obama or McCain is closer to being in agreement with you, and help them get elected.

Sorry, Random, I'm with those guys.

Doubt, I'll vote for the Prez. slot at all, may vote for a few state offices......

That's your affair. But I'm keeping a list of those I can blame if McCain wins! LOL

I think its hilarious that people think that if Obama gets in, things will change. Really?!

Democrats have had control of House and Senate now for some time and nothing has changed.

There needs to be something done with the American political system...obviously the two-party thing is NOT working and maybe that is supporting a different party. I don't know.

I can't stand Obama or McCain. Obama is a joke. McCain...blah.

Note that nothing can change in a Congress that only has simple majority or small majority in either party. It takes a 2/3 majority to pass anything in the Senate, and obstructionist Republicans prevent that from happening on anything that might be considered "progressive."

So, you can vote to give Democrats control and a Democratic President, or otherwise, if you're happy with the load of crap Washington, DC has handed out the past 8 years. And be aware, a vote for anyone other than Obama for President, is an automatic vote for the continuation of GWB's failed policies.

A vote for anyone but Obama or McCain is the same thing as not voting at all. It's perhaps even worse. It takes a vote away from one of the two candidates who is closest to your own views, and who actually has a chance of winning. If they have no chance of winning, then the vote is wasted.

There, I said it: "WASTED." Go ahead and throw your rocks at me, torture me, burn me at the stake. "Protest" votes are wasted votes, pure 'n simple.

"Closest" presumes that at least one of the candidates is "close" in the first place.
McCain represents maybe 5% of my views, Obama maybe the same. They're both idiots, just in different places. Take the good stuff from both of them and throw away the bad, and you might come up with a candidate who represents 8-10% of my views.
What it really boils down to is that both of them represent statist thinking, which I reject.
What would really be wasted would be a vote for either of them, because it says, "I agree that people belong to the government, not the other way around".

This time,I'll vote with a party that best represents my values..

Some say it's about winning, but guess what?

Now, I'll settle for being able to look myself in the eye when I shave.

:=D: :=D: :=D: :=D:

So I am voting for a third party candidate, that way this third party may get enough votes to start getting attention

We need a third party, so I am voting for what we need.

If I voted for McCain, in here, my vote would be wasted too. And I would rather drink bleach than to vote for McCain.

People here have wished the Republicans would just go away. That's never going to happen if some other party doesn't make a splash. So, three cheers for helping!

BTW, I guess you dislike McCain less than I do.

Lots of good opinions on here. But a quick observation.

A lot of people have been talking about third party candidates...not only on here, but in my day to day interactions. In 2000 it was a third party that in essence stole the election from Al Gore. And some people believe that a third party might still this election from Obama.

There's why I tell people who otherwise wouldn't vote to find an alternative party they like and vote for its candidates.

And for all the above reasons, I won't vote for either low-quality offering of the two major parties to the dismantling of our liberty. For that matter, I may not vote for anyone connected with either of them.

In Texas in order for a write-in vote to count, it must be cast for a candidate who has qualified as a write-in candidate. To qualify, the candidate must file a declaration of write-in candidacy with the Secretary of State. The declaration must be accompanied by an adequate number of signatures on a filing petition or by a filing fee. These documents must be filed between July 27 and August 26, 2008. Votes for candidates not on the ballot and not qualified as a write-in don't count. I mean they literally are not counted.

Thus, Brian Moore, the Socialist Party candidate, will not appear on the ballot, but write-in votes for him will be counted. By contrast, Ralph Nader has not submitted his documents. His name will not appear on the ballot either, but unlike Moore he cannot receive any write-in votes. Any write-in vote for Nader will be disregarded unless he gets his declaration and supporting documents in before the deadline.

By the way, I have found out a little more about Thaddaus Hill. Hill is a write-in candidate in Texas. It turns out that he is the candidate for the Madisonian-Federalist Party. From their website, I gather that they are a sort of hyper-libertarian party. Their principle concerns seem to be strict consititutional construction, equal protection, unlimited legal immigration, and advancing free trade. I do not know specifically how this would play out for gay issues, and I don't know what Hill thinks about gay issues.

I have 2 choices.
1. Vote for McCain and continue republican rule another 4 years.
2. Vote for Obama and ???????
I can not vote republican after watching the train wreck of the last 8 years.
However, Obama's "Change" that he was speaking of, apparently was his mind.
Obama is the lesser of 2 evils, and he will do some good, I can't say the same of McCain.
For the people that are not impressed by Obama you will have 4 years of saying - I told you so's in this forum.

^ I'm not impressed by Obama (his economics suck, for starters, and he wants us all to be victims as well), but I'm thoroughly repulsed by McCain. I wouldn't be surprised a whole lot to find out that the real McCain died in Vietnam and his body got possessed by some demon from the fifth level of Hell.

I hate to admit it, folks. But I'm thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to switching to a third party. Obama's text message will either reel me back in, or push me over the edge.

I have been predicting it will be my Senator Biden from DE. He is very knowledgeable in defense/military which can help Obama and neutralize the McCain issue, but unfortunately he comes off as a fucking asshole.

The txt goes out tomorrow morning.
