  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Is discrimination against fat people a legitimate argument?

A) I dont have a car. So i walk alot.
B) most of my jobs are physical.
C) When i party, it takes 2-3 days before i go home.

Ill admit, i dont make healthy choices myself, though the result is entirely diferent.

Your health aught to be more important than getting laid.
So many things could kill me, skipping the odd meal is the least likeliest.

Hurt my feelings? That doesn't describe it.

Let's see, now:

• I quit smoking. It was hell for three weeks, and a battle for six months, but I licked it.
• I'm still 10 pounds overweight, but losing. It's a battle I will win, so my cholestrol level will drop.

Winning these battles makes most people self-righteous. ("If I can do it, why can't anybody?" they say.)

It had the reverse effect on me, Purplebic. It taught me empathy for the battles people go through, when they quit smoking, or when they're losing weight.

So no, Purplebic: you didn't hurt my feelings.

Rather, I am disappointed to see a gay guy who's as self-righteous as a goddam Christian. Deeply disappointed.

10 pounds overweight? this thread is about people with real problems, 10 pounds is not a big deal. I have more empathy for someone trying to lose 100 pounds.

Self-Righteous? have you been following this thread at all? so far ive admitted to having been a junkie, and to making unhealthy choices that keep me underweight (such as partying for 3 days straight).

If you're calling me self-righteous because im looking at the situation logically, then that's your assessment.

Before we all go attacking purple, I think he has some valid points. Obesity is up now more than it used to be. Sure there are genetic reasons, but there is also the idea that you have to eat healthier and exercise as well.

To say, I'm fat, and there's nothing I can do about it, is generally not true.

:rotflmao: Look at all the peeps who came across this bait thread and jumped right in. Good job feeding the troll peeps. ..|

:p

So now were down to blaming parents? I suppose after that ittl be the governments' fault, or even god's, if youre religious.

There is no reasoning with you start telling me who I will be blaming next.

Have a nice day.

Reasoning with me? ive been sticking to the same point since the beginning. You're the one who's shifting positions. At first it was medical, then you said it was the parents, then you tried to invalidate my argument by mislabeling my self-correction as a contradiction.

Im surprised no one's blamed the potato famine yet.

Look. You're the one who insisted that every fat person was responsible for being fat. Their obesity was their own damned fault. I offered various reasons why that statement was false. My position hasn't shifted in the least.

But, as I said, there is no reasoning with you so I will waste no more time with this.

And again, have a nice day.

I'd rather have a decent quote than paraphrases.

What i believe i said was, fat people are inclined to look for reasons that places the blame outside of their control, thereby excusing their current state and enabling them to do nothing about it.

And all those excuses don't do anything to empower overweight people to do something about their situations, they are just there to ease their self-esteem. (and it doesn't help much for that either).

I offered various reasons why that statement was false. My position hasn't shifted in the least.

You kept reassigning blame as i debunked each reason, and finally tried to use my own words against me.

But hey, you're right, this is going in circles, as far as you're concerned.

Eat less. Exercise. Then you're not fat any more and there's no one to discriminate against. It's not like being fat is a good thing, and there are numerous disadvantages besides obvious health problems, like having to buy two airline tickets. I mean that right there would motivate me to lose weight if I was fat.

I think man's biggest flaw is the need to feel superior to others. Anyway, if discriminating against fat people is legitimate, then so is discriminating against gay people or black people or religious people and so on.

Travis, I don't think the advice to exercise is necessarily sound advice, by the way. Exercise increases appetite for some people.

I don't think people who are trying to lose weight should avoid exercise though.

and as the sun sets slowly in the West ---- the OP is NOWHERE to be found...

how typical - he farts in the wind and disappears - as usual ...........

only fitting that the discrimination issue was sufficiently degraded to diet plans....

OWN UP - FATTIES -- it's your own damn fault -- if you don't believe me -
go make a ham sandwich...

Like Joan of Arc said - you can turn me over now- this side's done.

and it was a skinny person, who did Coke for 3 days and had 4 other drugs in his system and alcohol when he slammed his truck into the back of a parked police cruiser (off the road) at 87 miles an hour

I think the important focus in all of this is not blaming fat people, but focusing on not discriminating against fat people, while at the same time providing them the means to be as healthy as they can be.

I'm not sure what a skinny person and a cruiser have to do with anything.

it's a take off on -- Guns don't kill people - people kill people

implied - fat people are jolly and cute -
skinny people are asshats --

and it's a true story -- a trooper of 22 years service was killed on the interstate in Connecticut a few weeks ago - by an asshole hyped up on drugs an alcohol -- what do you say to the troopers kids?
