  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Is HOT TOPICS the Place To Campaign for Your Personal Political, Religious, Moral Views?

To the contrary. I thought that's what Hot Topics is for? To share your personal views - of which politics, religion and morality is a part. Speaking of which, does anyone know the reason why the Orlando thread was deleted? I thought that would be a very Hot Topic??

I don't see why not. Freedom of opinion is what changes minds and helps us grow as humans.

Yet, sometimes opinions cannot be changed even with overwhelming evidence. There are people who firmly believe the Earth is flat. There are people who firmly believe in vampires and zombies. There are undoubtedly people who believe that the Moon is made of green cheese.

Once someone has something fixed in their brain, it is usually quite difficult to shift it.

Justagiuy I think that everyone had said everything that needed to be said...it was a cathartic experience...but it is impossible to have such a highly charged topic without it getting all bogged down in religion and politics and Guns and anger.

So as far as I'm concerned....all those who want to express their sorrow still have a thread in Hot Topics and all the people who want to belabour the political aspects have a thread in CE&P.

The other thread had become so toxic that it probably deserves to be buried at this point.

We were warned in the thread that it would be if the discussion continued on its political and religious path.

I think the worst culprits immigrated to hot topics because they couldn't keep up with the vitriolic rants C E & P. Pity really because new guys come here and usually gravitate to hot topics, only to be shouted out the door. The thread is called Hot Topics, not Hotheads.

Seems pretty silly to me, but it's not my board. I thought the thread had plenty of bad ideas in it, but lacked personal animosity.

Now let's all go back to talking about farts.

I don't care that he kicks dogs. If god didn't want dogs to get kicked, he'd have made them much taller so they'd be a lot easier to slap.

Anyway, I'm just quoting your post [again] so those who have you on ignore (see purple pussy avatar post #8) will have to see it....

What is "Hot Topic" means?
Isn't it suppose to be any topic we like to talk about in a not so serious way?

Hot Topics has always been a mishmash, and "vigilant" modding has long past.

As for the Ignore option, I've enjoyed JUB immeasurably more than when I didn't use it. The trolls can call me names all they want: it's just a pleasure not reading the bait.

A few JUBbers seem to have to inject their own personal bias into every HOT TOPICS thread even though the thread has nothing directly to do with that. I can name some of the worst offenders but I don't think I need to. Just look at the current Orlando shooting thread for examples.

Some even invent pointless and silly HOT TOPICS subjects in order to vent their personal views of such things as Islam (which properly belongs in the religion forum). Perhaps the solution is for Moderators to be more vigilant in detecting inappropriate uses of this forum and to move the threads as soon as they appear.

But in the end, I think the solution is for every poster here to remember what JUST US BOYS is for and not use it as a vehicle for spreading his own personal prejudices unrelated to the gay life.

I have frequently said to people that I don't fully understand the idea that is common in HT, that CE&P is this totally alien place where you need a PhD in Political Science and a weapon to participate. When it's not an election cycle, it's not uncommon at all for the most active threads in HT and CE&P to be about exactly the same news item. Hot topics in the news and politics and culture and everything else bleed seamlessly into one another.

I think what you're referring to are the posters who routinely derail any discussion into a specific pet topic, no matter what the original thread was about. Like let's just say, for sake of argument, IMMIGRATION and ISLAM IS EVIL. HT and CE&P each have their own resident doing this.

Yes, I think they should be instructed to keep their wish to endlessly discuss these issues to threads created expressly for that purpose, and not derail every other discussion into one big meta-discussion about immigration or Islam which never ends and never changes. But that's just my own personal view.

You should consider modding, outside of tax season.

When a child I was challenged when receiving my Christmas gifts including a puzzle with dozens of pieces, different shapes and sizes, colours galore for me to assemble into the finished picture staring back at me from the cover of the presentation box.

It is an education for me to read the different, and differing opinions that daily offer me the opportunity to learn something new, something worth spending time over to add to my understandings.

I also need to be entertained by the mundane, and trivial appearing here to remind me that there is a great variation in age, and background enabling me to appreciate that each of us can learn something of value from all who participate in our wonderland.

“have i gone mad?
im afraid so, but let me tell you something, the best people usualy are.”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

Join the thrilling adventure where madness is the beginning, and the end of where we are.

I think the solution is for every poster is to be an adult and take some personal responsibility for their own fragility and learn how to use the IGNORE BUTTON.

It is really very easy.

:)

The ignore button is useless because the most rabid trolls are quoted endlessly as they snicker from the attention they get.

Exactly. Until the quoted posts are ignored as well, the ignore button is, as you said, pretty-much useless.
