In the past, one could argue that it was straight people ruining the gay community with their discrimination, and hatred of gays.. However in this day and age.. do you feel that it's some gay themselves ruining the gay community with their own hatred, and discrimination among other gays now?

Everyone discriminates against everyone.

What's with all the questions about the negatives of belonging to a scene? Why can't you focus on the positive - Christmas is coming for fucks' sake.

Spidey! Get in here.

h.e.r, i understand your concern about the issues in the gay community but i actually agree with this. there are positives and negatives in the lgbt community.

Straight people have never had the opportunity to "ruin" the gay community because, by rejecting us, they propitiated the creation of safe havens where we could express ourselves, unite and flourish. Threats from the outside world were what made the gay community a rich, peculiar and diverse place. However, as we reach the mainstream, we are bound to lose part of that identity created by exclusion, and we will be forced to make changes and adopt a different perspective on what being gay means, and where we stand as a group. To become more accepted, we have to pay the price of losing what we were... To be honest, I am not sure that becoming diluted into "normalcy" is as exciting and empowering as some might want to believe, but well, being mediocre and invisible is better than being persecuted, I guess.

As for the people who might be ruining the gay community from within, who are you referring to? Conservative gays? Bitchy, hedonistic, beauty-obsessed gays? The apathetic and indifferent younger generations? They are not ruining everything, in my opinion; they are just a reflection of the diversity within every group... There are arseholes everywhere, after all. ..|

No. The ones that hate outwardly are in the closet, they really don't really hate gay people unless they hate themselves.

I don't think we are ruining anything. We are making crossroads to acceptance of gay marriage, some European countries and Canada allow it. Young men find it much easier to come out to their family and find acceptance. It's getting better.

It is. Look at apps such as OkCupid, Jak'd, Grindr, BGCLive, etc.. lol, no complaints about Growlr.
Oh, well, I thought this was going to be one of those tired old threads about how Pride Parades hurt the Gay Community, or how embarrassing and phony and unnatural queenie guys are, and how if we want acceptance we're going to have to act more "normal," like the straight people do.

Oh - wait - IS this one of those threads?

Ooooo. This post gave me a change of heart. It's golden. My eyes are glowing, I'm going to snapshot, and save this post! ^^

I don't care what other people think of the community. If they are going to carry hate or negativity in their hearts and actions, they're going to do it regardless of my opinion.

Frankly, this run of negative threads is starting to be annoying. There are so many opportunities for positive in this world, and all people do is focus on the darkness. You get what you focus on, I've believed it for years and life tends to prove me right.

I actually have no concerns about the gay community - I just get annoyed that everything has to be nitpicked, sectioned off and blamed.

has occurred to me that quite practically grouping together lesbian women-gay males-bisexual people-transvestites-transgendered people is probably illogical , given that all of these component groups have massively different histories and current situations .

..LOL....That's Deep...Very Deep....LOL...
