I don't understand how my parents can stand to have it on all the time. With the exception of the occasional gem like Sherlock, after five minutes I feel like my brain is dribbling out of my ears.

Do you think your parents watch too much tv? Is that what you are saying? On this account, I think people in general watch too much tv. Most of it is garbage too but I understand for say my family, they watch it to keep the quiet at bay. When there is no tv they have to communicate with one another and they really don't like that, the awkward silences, and the awkward conversations lead to fights.

I've never seen Sherlock, I must check it out before I give an opinion.

Don't hate the messenger, hate the message. Change the channel or simply tune out.
