  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Is it me or is haji to Mecca a big waste of thousands of lives?

I think that to qualify as a religion, any religion's followers have to believe in something that makes no sense whatsoever.

Can you think of any religion that makes rational sense?

All religion make rational sense in some people's head. That is why there are followers in any religion.
That is why we need religious experts like Christopher Hitchens to kick there sense.

That they may. However, the one that really doesn't make sense is Scientology.

It will be interesting to see how long Hitchens' legacy lasts in contrast to those he fought so bitterly and personally: Mother Teresa, the Dalai Llama, and Gore Vidal. What? No attack on the Reverend Martin Luther King? Perhaps there are limits.

He rose to fame as an ex-bisexual, Oxford-educated contrarian who emigrated and settled in the U.S. How rare that must be.

After opposing the drug revolution of the 60's and 70's, he went on to drink himself almost to death before his goal was interrupted by death from cancer. And for those who still cannot belief in a God of vengeance, he died in Houston, Texas.

We need a new Rodin to sculpt his likeness in recreation of The Burghers of Calais, beside his friends Dennis Miller and Sam Maher. The "enlightenment" that Hitchens brought apparently left him so bored that he drank to make others more interesting. Dissipation indeed.

Hip, hip -- hooray! Hip, hip -- hooray! Hip, hip -- Hooray!

They named an asteroid after him. Bleak indeed.

Same reaction as before: If I'm not sad, better not to say anything

Because the Saudi make a lot of money from the pilgrims.
And the overseas muslims are sort of dump in terms of spirituality (they "must" go to Mecca)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hajj
The Hajj (/hædʒ/;[1] Arabic: حج‎ Ḥaǧǧ "pilgrimage") is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, and a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by all adult male Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey, and can support their family during their absence.[

I would think that the decision about the ability to go would be a matter of conscience, there seems to be some wiggle room as to the necessity of going.

I just did the "hajj" by walking for 2 hours non stop.
I feel spiritually hajjed lol, My feet are sore now

You're kidding, right? Is that really a thing?

It is really a thing in Post #9 most likely, satire only.

Oh, then you're gonna love the cross. It's much more of a full-body workout.

And here I was almost thinking your sacrileges were going to be pointless.

*pours out*

I feet was in pain because i wore the wrong shoes.
Pain forced you to think spiritually right ?
