Is it normal to get a headache with a brand new pair of glasses?

Just got my new pair of glasses and the Rx is way different from my old pair. Should I worry about getting a headache or will it go away with time.


This is my first time with glasses with an ADD value as well so I am not sure if this is common.

Okay so I JUST saw your post and moved the glasses a bit down my nose and the headache almost went away 100%. That was weird. And yes they are bifocals, but the kind without a line. I have never had bifocals before.

Those are "progressive" lens bifocals.

A lot of people do complain about headaches when they first get bifocals, especially if they are prone to migraines.

As painful as it may be, eye doctors recommend that you wear them as much as possible at first so that your brain adjusts to the new lens. You may want to pay attention to your eye movement patterns- people who have a habit of looking at the ground while walking do have a tendency to have more adjustment issues when they first use bifocals.

After a couple of weeks of using the bifocals, if you find that you're still having headaches then you may want to make an appointment with your eye doctor to have the glasses checked to make sure they are the correct prescription and to discuss whether you should change to a different prescription that doesn't trigger your headaches.

Go back have them check your prescription trust. If you have the wrong prescription in one eye, in a matter of a week your eyes now adjust to your vision and it will not impo¡rove. I have an Uncle he needed a cataract oeration in both eyes, In one eye he chose a lense that helps him to see distance. THe other Eye he wanted just a plain lens and woudl wear glasses. The Brain now uses each eye and you will ever see right have it c You checked immediately! Yo will no go blind but its almost teh equivalent of walkig down the street with your eyes crossed! There should be no charge for the fix good luck!

I always get a headache the first few days after a new pair of glasses. Listen to Karabulut's advice, he knows what he's talking about.

I wrote the company I got my glasses from last night and they emailed me back.


They said to give it up to two weeks. They pretty much said what Karabulut said.

It is not unusual to get a headache after getting new glasses. If you still get a headache after a few days then you should check with your doctor. The first time with bifocals I did have a little trouble judging stairs so you will need to be careful at first.
