Mister, I think you should say what you believe. But I am one of those who believe in the concept of Free Speech.

Well I don't think its racist, but yes the media portrays an attractive male light skinned, colored eyes and blonde or brown hair. Sadly yes the gay community projects that too

Your sexual attraction to specific human beings is definitely a human trait, when appreciating the variety of choice that the human race has on offer.

Variation in human appearance makes our choices infinitely interesting, even appealing when learning from our experiences that under the skin all human life shares so much in common.

“People are pretty much alike. It's only that our differences are more susceptible to definition than our similarities.”~Anon

I don't think it's any more racist than me saying "Asians are overrated when it comes to attractiveness".

Personal preferences shouldn't automatically come with a PC racist label attached.

Yes, it's racist. The fact you cannot see it is unsurprising.

im happy that you found a way to deal with the racist beauty standarts that are inflicted on us and that cause many asian people to be almost exclusively attracted to caucasian people. im wrestling with this myself.

but then you express that empowering sentiment with a negative, borderline racist sentence... "white people are overrated!"

thats so unnecessary. especially since i think the sentiment comes from an honest place. i think the text of your opening post is already much more balanced and genuine than the negative, agressive, borderline offensive thread title.

just say "i wasnt attracted to asian men in the past, but more recently, im increasingly think theyre hot!" leave the white guys out. no need to put down another ethnicity to feel better about your own.

i always get super-irritated when guys feel the need to say that "asian people are not attractive IM NOT RACIST ITS A PREFERENCE". yeah, please do shut up. yes its a prefernce and thats not racist per se, but that doesnt mean you need to express that all the time, not caring at all how it might make other people feel about themselves. its just inconsiderate. just leave it at "youre not my type."

Given the fact that you want to be empowered, but have to achieve that by putting an entire race down, yeah, it sounds racist.

Your explanation after wasn't needed, but it sure as hell didn't help.

Having a preference, and having worked through one's own journey in that is one thing. Blaming the attraction on the surrounding culture, and therefore the race, is a bit disingenuous.

Agree.

LTR of course is a much more complex subject than "pure" sexual attraction. There is such a thing as cultural misunderstandings, but then there might by any number of misunderstandings between two people of the same ethnicity too. If two people wanna be together, they'll work out their differences; if they can't, then the relationship won't work, no matter what the two persons' ethnicity is. So isn't it all down to how you can relate to an individual?

Sexually, I used to not be into Asians, until I went to Asia. I heard the same thing, just the other way round, from Asians after they'd been to Europe. I believe it's all about exposure. So if you, MisterDC84, who's had plenty of exposure to all races, first go only for one and then only for the other, it might be the simple evolution of sexual tastes. But because you mentioned culture, it seems to me there are other issues going on, namely, a dissatisfaction with how things are going in America or something. Since there are enough white people with the same dissatisfaction, you can surely see how it would rankle them to be blamed for this "spoiledness" simply because they are white too.
Saying "group A is more attractive/better behaved/less spoiled [whatever], than group B" sounds to people like "you can only have my respect as a human being if you change your standards to mine" - even if that is not what you actually mean.
As hylas said above, why not leave it at "You're not my type" and go for whatever you're happy with?

However, last year, they went with the "trend" and threw in about 3 Asian models which. I think it's a shame that they can only do such a thing because "the money's there".

True. But if anyone wants to have their beauty standards dictated by the fashion industry, that's their own problem. I hope it's not yours :D (And since it's a business and not a sociological showcasing of the beautiful diversity of humankind, of course they will only do something if there's money there.)

In a thousand years, if we still exist, we'll all be beige and that bloody problem will have gone away.

You might want to look up the word "empowering"...it means "unshackled"..."set free"..."etc".

You might want to look up the word "context", and then apply it to your original post.

For someone that claims to be "set free", you sure do let outside influences color your views.

My original thought stands.

Everybody has their preferences, but you don't have to be so blunt as to say white guys are "overrated." Just say that you personally prefer the look of Asian men. It's no different than saying you prefer brown eyes to blue.

The gay porn industry is also a business...lol. But I get what you're saying. I agree also with a lot of the other points you made...I'd like to reply but I gotta go to work!

Have fun at work :-)

There's not only American muscle-hunk porn... and don't forget, in many Asian countries, porn is illegal, but there's always Japan (albeit pixelled, though some directors seem to make the pixellation very high-res and "nominal") and all the Thai guy vids on the various websites...

You shouldn't lump all white guys together. There are guys of all races you can be attracted to. Here are pictures of 5 men, all gorgeous, all different races.

1) Asian

2) Latino

3) Caucasian

4) Asian Indian

I don't think anyone here finds them unattractive.

naw, not at all. i agree with what most people have said about you wording yourself poorly and all but there's nothing wrong with what you said.

sadly, white people and eurocentricism in terms of looks is placed upon highly in the world due to the whole white superiority mentality that has been brainwashed to people around the world. besides what others have said, it's a known fact that nonwhite features are frowned down where it's pretty much insinuated that it's seen as ugly. for example, eyes with epicanthic folds, afro-textured hair, brown eyes, and other characteristics associated with nonwhites historically and still in present day time is often made fun of and etc (for example, hair commercials which constantly look down on afro-textured hair by using the word "damaged hair" and how shampoos will help straigten out hair). sad enough, blacks, asians, hispanics, indians and etc are pretty much taught that it's okay to reject their cultures and themselves and assimilate themselves to the eurocentric culture. it's disgusting if you ask me.

with that said, i tend to get attracted to hot guys regardless of who they are. black, white, asian, indian, hispanic, or whatever. if i think you're hot, chances are i'll be on your dick.

We learn that we should not generalise and make blanket statements, but we do it all the time, whether we praise or criticise. It's the real world. In a public forum, where people don't know your history of day-to-day behaviour and attitudes and can't see your facial expression or hear your tone of voice, words must be chosen ever so carefully if misunderstandings are to be avoided. Which is bloody difficult.

I think I also get MisterDC: if you don't see yourself adequately represented in society, you idealise (or, less loaded: orientate yourself towards) other things. Why not. But on the basis of the individual, I don't see why anyone should pre-exclude anyone. Generally speaking, that is. If you're in a gay bar and horny, it's natural that you'll seek to speak more to those you're sexually attracted to.

Speaking purely of the matter of looks: what I find disgusting is when job ads for models in China explicitly ask for "mixed Asian" instead of wholly Asian models, or when 3rd generation Asian-Americans have a difficult time finding a job as an English teacher because many Mainland Chinese equate "foreign = good", (foreign meaning white Western - there's another mini-essay in that but I'll spare you.) I expect that to change slowly as the Chinese pile up achievements while the West is in relative decline - it's a function of cultural/economic dominance.

(As an aside, I wonder what standing all things Chinese will have in Africa in 50 years, since they're investing so much there and have - so far - not fucked Africa over as badly as the West has. Will Africans start to eat moon cakes, like Germans have started to go trick-and-treating?)

I'm not attracted to white men at all, and I get tired of hearing how white men are the most attractive especially in the porn industry.

As in, when Americans discuss porn, they'll often say they find white guys more attractive? I have never been around the gay scene in America, is that what it's like? Or do you mean an over-representation of white guys? My impression from the web is that there are enough videos with other races, but I have no idea about the attitudes among directors and actors in the industry.

@OP - No it is not a racist thing for you to say. Only white people can be racist, by definition racism is a white thing.

The best equivalent that people of other races can be, is anti-racist, or 'the opposite of racist'.

I think the phrase "White people are overrated" does sound a bit racist, however reading your post, I think the phrase you were actually looking for was "saying you are only attracted to one race is overrated", which I don't think is at all.
