Do you not control what threads you start and how you reply to them? Certainly the level of participation in hot topics has not diminished over time ... it simply has shifted and if you're not part of the crowd that appreciates every thread having a private conversation within it, then the vibe is you need not post, imho.

I've never connected the satire & private conversation threads with apathy. Not sure where that came from. Hot Topics is as active as ever, only its tone has changed.
