Not that I want to turn them on at night now... but since the weather is mild.. I'm thinking of putting them up. I Usually do this Dec 1st but wondered if it was too early yet?

You should not hang them until after Sadam.
do you mean...
people in your neighborhood take them down?
seriously...
don't people usually put lights up the day after thanksgiving? it gives the straight men something to do while the gay men and straight women shop.

Generally speaking anything Christmas-ish before Thanksgiving is kind of tacky for me, but I can understand people wanting to start early while they have time. I will gladly take people putting up their lights early rather than look at them still up in March.
Speaking of too early, I did recieve my first Christmas card in the mail....now that is way to early.
As a general rule: Holiday decorating can be done at anytime after Halloween. Decorations should be taken down within the first week of January at the latest.
Some people are superstitious and believe that decorations should not be up after New Year's Eve. Others believe they should not be taken down until after the new year arrives.
Merchants would like nothing better than for you to buy the crap all fucking year.
Your local power company would prefer that you leave your lights on 24/7/365 days a year. It helps their stocks.
I prefer option 3: combine the holidays "Halloween" and "Protestant Christmas" into one. Create a display featuring a bloody sleigh and reindeer crash site marked by a large lit crucifix.
This decor can be displayed as early as October 1st!
Decorations go up after Thanksgiving, and stay up until Epiphany (January 6th).
I don't do outside lights. 'though. I'd fall off the ladder and break something.
