Is It True, Are Ginger People Soulless ?

The association of red hair with only Ireland is a bit errant. Germany also has a significantly high red-head population.

Scotland supposedly has slightly more red-heads than Irelands. It is thought to be an evolutionary adaption for climates with cloudy skies.

The men who visit the Afghani mosque in Stuttgart dye their hair red in honor of Mohammed who -according to them- is rumored to have had the same hair color..

First time i've ever heard this.

Ignorant; although the exact fact is that he has been PORTRAYED as being redheaded because redheads have generally been regarded as evil, the Western being more disgusted than scared, as is more the case of Far Eastern Asian. Anyway, they have been the black among the white, before there ever were black people commonly seen anywhere.

Wasn´t Jesus a red-head himself?

Tradition has it that Judas, who betrayed Christ, was ginger.

Here is a site that repeated that story, but also some other interesting points: https://bigthink.com/strange-maps/625-gingers-of-the-world-unite

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judas_Iscariot

There are a few theories about how Judas came to be attributed with red hair.

The first one is that the Spanish Inquisition really marked the beginning, and it was common in Italy and Spain to portray Jews as redheads, so the Inquisition's contempt of Jews was focused into Judas as a quintessential villain among the Jews.

Another is that Germans began the tradition because a corruption of Iscariot is "ist gar roth" which is German for "it's RED!" That one seems weak because the German people were not likely to demonize red hair as much as other countries where the incidence was low.

A third theory is that it began in England with their dislike of the Danes after the Viking invasions.

An older source would be among the Egyptians and Israelites themselves, as both sometimes sacrificed redheaded children. The theory is this prejudice simply crept into the Judas account over time as it was considered a negative attribute.

It really gives you a new perspective on what redheads have suffered over the decades. How uncalled for.

Maybe we should coin a new term for sexy redheads as a favor to make up for the jibing?

How about the Red Hots? Or maybe the Hot heads?

Anyone?

I'm changing my avatar for a while to showcase some.

Eddie Redmayne (or is it Red-mane?) :p can be first up. The still is from a modelling shoot he did at age 22 for Rowan.

is your avatar !8?

I thought he looked younger too, but I looked it up in multiple places, and he reportedly did the Rowan modelling shoot when he was 22.

Redmayne's appeal, like many actors who are older than they look, is that they can play those roles but have more years of wisdom and life experience that help them act with the hindsight that helps the roles.

If I hadn't found the sites and articles, I would have thought him maybe 16 in those pics. Here is the article that cited his age as 22 in the pic, plus I found elsewhere the year and bounced it against his birth year.

My current avatar is Damian Lewis. I'm going to finish cycling through several redheads before returning to base with Theo.

That's only white Jesus. Brown Jesus had brown hair.

I had flaming red hair growing up and had never heard the term "ginger" until I came here. I would get teased as a kid because of it...probably why I'm "soulless" now. ;) That didn't bother me as much as the old ladies that would come up and touch my hair and tell me how they wished they had it.

Now I have a teenage nephew that is a redhead and hear others refer to him as "ginger", and he's never seemed to mind it. I think now it's more common than when I was a kid.

/\

I've not heard anyone use the term very much, other than online.

But, 'gingers' are quite common, here, and the term applies only to those who match the colour of the brownish red spice, head to toe - freckles and all - and not the real redheads like my Danish grandmother who had hair the colour of tomatoes and a very white complection.

I've only recently heard of or read an American using the description "ginger". I've always thought it was an exclusively British usage.

This thread is seriously lacking illustrative pics of the subject discussed... the ginger male hair, not the soul.

And for those of you who might be wondering . . .
