The problem with discussions amongst intellectuals is that the debate becomes too intellectual

Wish it were so... problem is rather the contrary. Common people are usually more "intellectual" once they engage themselves in an "intellectual" subject.

After that they start to deviate and theorise based on their hypotheses in ever increasing tangents to each other until they reach a stage whereby they are debating points devoid of the original content to which they started the discussion.

You can't claim to have just said it if you are then quoting something I said before you said it. Unless of course I am a time traveller, which may or may not be the case depending on your definition of time and it's relativity to the concept of it only moving in one direction.

In which case surely you should have said something along the lines of "what I have just said concurs with the previous comment"?

The inference in "what I just said" is that the other person has just repeated what you have just said whereas in your example you are using a past tense of said which implies you said it first. ALthough of course the weakness in my own argument is that inference is a series of steps in reasoning. It goes from premises to a logical consequences in a way which is theoretically divided into deduction and induction, both of which are flawed concepts in the goal of ultimate truth.

We have now proven the theory that an intellectual debate deviates from the original point of discussion, assuming of course that this was an intellectual debate and not merely a series of hypothetical statements?


In conclusion we are drawn back to the original point. Is JUB dead? Although of course that question is in itself a paradox because as a website it is inanimate in as much as it is not living but accepting the term to be no longer functioning then the fact that we are discssuing it's "demise" or not on the site means it is still working.

I have to say I understand why people have their reservations about CE&P but it is a forum I did like to partake in.
