I respectfully disagree.

Although I put the Ignore feature to use after a few days of said member's return, I've seen enough of your rebuttals to know you two have resumed your binary star orbits. Whereas that is a bit taxing for you, no doubt, it demonstrates that the posting of garbage or hate speech is not pointless, as the refutations and the insertion of reason is indeed stymying to said propaganda.

There are anti-Semites, racists, homophobes, and anti-feminists on 9gag, and they find resonance with one another there, but they do not have the forum unchallenged. The presence of many gays, egalitarians, and progressives means it is a diverse site. If we ran at the mere appearance of bigotry, we'd be ceding the sites to the dark side.

Let fools post folly and it be seen for what it is. If the content attracts buzzards, then we all deal with it. Right now, it's just one magpie.
 
Someone posted yesterday that no younger people would care to be part of this forum because of some of the stuff that is posted here.

I get that most people are just putting Grimshaw on ignore...but if no one refutes the garbage that he is posting ...then for any person just casually reading through the threads, it looks like this is who we are as an on-line community.

It is easier to ignore him, but doing so basically gives him ownership of every thread he takes over.

Does "this forum" mean Hot Topics? There's plenty more on the list to choose from. A lid for every pot. I don't see why under-35s (that's my idea of younger people) would be put off by seeing against-the-grain opinions. Twitter, what little I see of it, is swarming with rabid loonies shooting their mouths off but that doesn't keep anyone away. Surely you come to a forum for a discussion. God save us from the echo chamber. If the LGBQWTF lunatic fringe got some practice testing their ideas by articulating them in proper sentences organised into coherent paragraphs, and listening to contrary views before trying to refute them, we wouldn't be seeing most of these repetitious and predictable (and quite entertaining) videos of inarticulate baying louts breaking up lectures and meetings.

We can knock ideas around in Hot Topics and often have fun with them. Nobody gets killed. Except for the occasional sock puppet maybe.

The slightest bit of self-analysis might be needed to understand why all the trans/women, some of the youth and most of the black people that used to post here regularly have left. Undeserved hubris makes this unlikely. I'm starting to think maybe I should've given consideration when a mod suggested a segregated forum for "the others" who are routinely mocked and made to feel unwelcome by the AARP gang.
