Is LimeWire Dead?

That Mac you had was pre-USB ports I think, Brandon.

Watch Brandon whine. Just mention a Mac.

I don't have a problem with Mac's it's just that it seems to be more annoying to find a webcam that is compatible with a PowerBook then installing one for Windows Vista.

Powerbooks have them built-in or use Apple's iSight or any USB or firewire camera. The really good Logitech works fine with no more and no less set-up than windoze.

You are using OS X?

You should go to your systems firewall and open ports 6817 and 6346 for UDP traffic and name it Gnutella/Limewire.
Works fine on my Mac (like everything else)

I've said in other threads, I'm computer illiterate, but I found something interesting.
I decided to uninstall limewire pro and reinstall free. In the lower left hand corner where the icon says there is a firewall , if you right click on it you can remove the firewall. I didn't have to uninstall after all. But anyway I kept the free one and am downloading music. It works for me.

My BF has a Logitech that it says it's built for Mac OS X 10.4.9 and it doesn't work on Yahoo Messenger. But he bought some kind of webcam from some website hopefully that works.

Also to stick to the topic, I just downloaded three songs from LimeWire so it's definitely not dead.

I understand yahoo can be problematic. Get a AIM account.

edit: The good thing about Linux (especially Ubuntu) is how closely it resembles Windows - I may have hardware/software compatibility issues but most of the GUI looks and feels the same even down to having full two mouse button functionality from the off (because I'm using the same PC as I was/am with Windows) - even a lot of the extra software looks like it did in Windows and it's free. Considering that the Linux community is not for profit it astounds me that Apple don't put the effort in since their products cost so much.

Bill wants royalties on Linux too. Can you believe it?? See

But doesn't that just show the whole Mac vs. PC problem guys - there's Brandon's BF with a Logitech web cam built for the Mac OS and now he's supposed to change his IM - why should he have to do that? Why don't Apple and Yahoo collaborate and make the thing work. If Apple really cared about their people they'd get all the major software working on their platform.

I can walk into any PC store and pretty much buy any webcam off the shelf from $10 to $110 and I'm confident that it'll not just work on my PC but that it'll work with all the major IMs in Windows.

My MS Lifecam thingy is great - plug and play - works with all the main IMs.

Ya see moving to a Mac doesn't just mean a change of OS it means having to change the way you do almost everything - surfing the web, video conferencing, email - not for me guys.

I can't change my boyfriend's whole computer platform, he's been using Apple computers for a while so I doubt he'll even be touching a PC.

I'm glad for Mac's new laptops with the built in webcam and mic, but what about those who don't have the new Mac laptops already spending an arm and a leg for a Mac laptop that doesn't have a webcam, it's like finding a porn star that probably doesn't exist. You're searching the Internet trying to find a webcam that might not even be compatible with a Mac.

Apple stopped selling their webcams, SO NOW WHAT? BF has to buy a new laptop? Yet again my BF gets fucked by Apple. :grrr:

P.S - I'm waiting for a Mod to place all the Mac talk in a thread called "Let's talk shit about a PC / Let's talk shit about Mac".

Why not try eBay for an iSight? Also Logitech products work fine.

But this thread was about Limewire, which is not dead. If you want to talk shit about a Mac, Brandon, go ahead. Everybody will ignore you.

What about the guy that bought a PC shortly before Vista came out and found out it won't even run Vista!

Are you sure you had the cam set up in its preferences and in system preferences > sound?

Also what is that stuff about a porn star? Is your b/f a porn star or are you. I didn't follow what it was that you were trying to say.

Ah now sheep sounds like you're being a bit touchy. Who is this 'everyone' who will 'ignore' Brandon if he talks 'shit about a Mac'? I'm listening - there's been a couple of replies.

As for buying PCs that won't run Vista - sue they're still on sale here in Ireland and even online from some of the major players (there's a thread here about Dell continuing to offer XP on some PCs). Where is this PC that won't run Vista - it would have to be a fairly crappy PC as the minimum specs for Vista aren't that severe.

What about the guy who bought a webcam for a Mac and found out it won't work with his favourite IM? :p
The iSight works with Yahoo. It works better with AIM, and now even M$N IM supports cams on Mac. I see only one dollar has been given to the *smash an iPhone site*. Brandon, I thought you were a broke student:p

I bought a Logitech camera that instantly worked with Vista when it was plugged in, didn't even have to put the disc in for the drivers. If I put the same camera in for Mac it wouldn't recognize it.

Limewire is still alive I just downloaded something from it several minutes ago.

It's not my Money I'm using Sheep, it's my BF's. He's spent a lot of money already trying to get his damn webcam to work. Two days ago he bought a webcam that says it works for ALL Messenger programs and Mac and PC.

What is this disc you are referring to?

Did you run the cam app and set up the settings? Did you go to system prefs and make sure it recognized the mic? I am not trying to start the 3rd world war. I answered the question on Limewire as it appeared in Limewire's Q&A and got me up and running. I am only trying to help you. I have a Logitech Harmony Remote for my A/V system. It is the only peripheral for which I have ever needed a disk. If it won't work try Q&A or get a ticket from Logitech. I know it would be easier if you had the laptop there because this shouldn't be rocket science. Have you tried iPhox, Skype or Sightspeed?

It should work with Yahoo.
